Maybe 3rd for pass blocking, but certainly not for run blocking nor overall. The OL was absolutely shit at times in run blocking and the last year of the season the Lions linemen ate the Packers lunch and stole their wallets, straight up kicking their arses.

Packers don't even have the #1 OL in the NFC North, there is no chance their #3 overall for the entire NFL.

Packers have Bakhtiari, Jenkins and a lot of questions. I do agree the Packers have a ton of depth, but the issue is quality starters.

Runyan seems to be able to focus on pass blocking.or run blocking and be good at one, but then struggles with the other.

Myers struggles at times with both.

Nijman, I like him, but coaches only play him when they have no other veteran options.

Tom, I actually think Tom has a ton of potential as a pass blocker and IF they let him stay focused at RT spot only, he can win the starting RT spot.

Newman, was absolutely horrible last year.

Patrick, was beyond absolutely horrible last year.

And the rest backed these guys up last year.

3. GREEN BAY PACKERS (NO CHANGE)

Pass Blocking: Packers are 3rd behind Eagles and Ravens

Run Blocking: Packers are 22nd only ahead of Commanders, Bengals, Buccaneers, Saints, Jets Bills, Texans, Jaguars, Cardinals and Chargers.

Out of a score of 100, the Packers run blocking was only above 65 in two games last year (Eagles and Giants).

Out of a score of 100, the Packers only had two OL with a run blocking score over 61, and they were Jenkins and Bakhtiari.

Sure their pass blocking score was 3rd with
87.8 Bakhtiari
79.1 Tom
77.0 Runyan
74.3 Myers
67.8 Jenkins
The rest of the OL that played more than one game was below 55.

For run blocking
71.8 Jenkins
68.5 Bakhtiari
61.0 Hanson
The rest of the OL that played more then one game scored below 61.

Note: Luke Tenuta scored in the mid 70s of both but only played one game and 7 snaps, so I don't think he should be included.

So yes, Packers were a top 3 pass blocking team (which probably has the QBs brains of being able to avoid pressure and negative plays helping them) but their run blocking was quite poor and you can't honestly call this OL a top 3 OL unless you want to claim running the ball is not part of the game.

Doesn't matter what happened last year

The only stat that matters is The Packers have 13 guys returning, who at one time or another have played and/or started and a majority of them have been cross-trained so when the inevitable happens, injuries, there are backups who can come in and perform well!

This is hardly a frivolous topic.

Other than QB and CB, the OL is the most important position group on the team.

Nevertheless yes, we are all hopeful that someone out of the group will be able to play well even if they have not exhibited to date.

😆

How banged up has the OL been in recent seasons? 2-3 years ago we were on our 5th string T. Still went 13-3, still made the playoffs.

Last year we weren't as good as a team, but not because of the Oline.

Especially considering the Packer's best linemen were coming off injuries, and there were some dumb coaching choices made - playing Nijman at RT instead of Tom, for instance.

I think their starting 5 (and I count Tom here) are probably in the 5-10 range overall. And they have some good backups, and some promising developmental players.

That's not to say I think they couldn't have gotten better in the draft. But the comment about not talking lineman after a certain point (4th round?) makes sense to me. If you don't think those guys can push for a roster spot, don't waste a pick on them, focus on UDFAs.

I would say their biggest issue is if Bahktari misses significant time again (and history would suggest that he will). Just because that's such a sharp drop-off to the next guy. I was kind of hoping they would go OT with the first pick, because I think it's something they need to address long-term. But I would put "what if their best players get hurt" high on the list of every team's problems.

Great points, Bakhtiari and Jenkins won't be knocking off the rust, Jenkins should have a set position and better OG next to him should they try him at RT again.

Tom seems like a potential elite pass blocker, but they seemed to only trust the veterans at first for whatever reason... they had Hanson in there at OG until he got hurt, and with all due respect, Hanson's pass blocking was not worthy of being put on the field.

I agree, OL has their depth, and it'd be hard for a later pick, that makes sense. That being said, I know one person was absolutely pissed about not getting OT Broderick Jones in the first, though I think that was their draft crush and being picked just one pick after us made it hurt that much worse.

But as I saw someone else point out, Gute has a long tradition of defense in round 1 and offense in rounds 2 & 3.

And defense is harder with the NFL rules going towards the offense, so trying to get the elite players there.
