Someone here knows the answer...

I know they re did the field in Green Bay a couple of years ago. I was there at the time and saw them working on it when I took the tour.

Does anyone know what kind of turf they put down in Green Bay? I think it was woven with artificial fibers.

The reason I ask is I noticed Big Ben is crediting the the turf they put in Hienze field (Very giving) for his quick recovery from his concussion and whiplash.

Heinz Field has a DDGrassmaster system of natural grass reinforced with artificial grass fibers.

Anyone know what they put down in Green Bay?

RP i think it is the same thing, the DD Grassmaster system.

I do know for sure that it is real grass with artificial fibers woven in for strength under massive duress such that you would find at lambeau.

I will look it up, i know theres an article out there somewhere.

edit* yep it is the DD Grass Master System. It looks great and performs great I think. Its a pretty great system if you ask me.

In 2007 the Packers installed an entirely new playing surface, including a completely new drainage and heating system, bringing the latest technology in field management to the famous stadium. Chief to the new system is DD GrassMaster, a natural grass surface reinforced with man-made fibers. All existing levels of the field were removed and the new system began with a clay sub-grade level, compacted and graded (with a .6 percent slope), including drain tile, irrigation pipe and thermostat wiring for the heating system. The second level consists of 5.5 inches of pea gravel. On top of the gravel layer is 30-plus miles of 3/4-inch tubing for the heating system which can maintain a root-zone temperature of 55-plus degrees to keep the ground from freezing during the season's latter months. Level three consists of 12 inches of root-zone sand and Kentucky bluegrass turf. DD GrassMaster's synthetic fibers are stitched into the surface, providing strength and stability to the field. Fibers extend approximately seven inches below the surface and are exposed approximately one inch above the surface and are spaced every three-quarters of an inch. Approximately 20 million individual stitches make up the process. The slope equates to a crown of about 5.5 inches on the new surface.

BTW, the the Kentucky bluegrass, according to the tour guide this year, is shipped in from.......New Jersey.

Great stuff, Thank You All.

And now we know it can also reduce the severity of head injuries.

Thats interesting to know we use the same thing as the Steelers, I have to give our grounds crew props for our field holding up. I get stuck watching alot of Steeler games and the field always gives up on them and makes it tough to play on. You will see big divets come up when guys slide.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Hey Veg, were those taken from the luxury box that was opened to the public? If so, we probably brushed shoulders while you were taking those pics.
