Bush showed flashes of brilliance when we first signed him, but now... seeing #24 on the field whenever something bad happens just annoys the crap out of me.

Unless we draft Malcolm Jenkins, I think Bush is a lock to make the roster. He just better make something of it as a reserve. I know he's a good splitter on ST, but I want to see the brilliance I saw in his first pre-season.

Someone just pointed out to me that Bush is a good special teams player.

Who said this and what was he smoking?

I'm sure he was kept for his contributions on ST

Contributions?

-Bush had six penalties on ST; three times more than anyone else on special teams and the most by a special-teams player in Green Bay in more than 20 years.

-He also led ST with six missed tackles, one more than Jason Hunter and Mason Crosby.

I'm guessing he must have some naked pictures of Ted Thompson.

^ I think if Tony G is coming to GB then the Packers will likely release Donald Lee or trade him for a late round draft pick.

Jarrett Bush getting the tender by no means indicates he's a Packers for 2009. It means he has a chance to be a Packer for 2009, but I could see him being released this Summer.

True dat.

In Bush's defense, he's a better safety than corner... maybe this is insurance in case someone snaps up Bigby.

"porky88" wrote:

I prefer him as a waterboy over playing safety. Like Ironman pointed out, he was horrible. I do feel somewhat bad for knocking on this guy though. He isn't great, but he does seem to work hard always getting to the ball first etc.

That said, Humphrey might not be on there, because isn't a great player. He's good, and I like him, but we have Finley on the roster as our second TE. He's too good for being a 3rd TE and not good enough to surpass the upside of Finley.

The Ruvell tender might be an indication to a receiver-less draft. I know Ted Thompson will draft one if he's there and he's the best value on his chart, but I think our receiving group is in place.

Bush is a useful special teams player. He is consistently the first person to the returner.

If you are convinced you hate a guy, you won't have any trouble finding one or two plays to throw out there to say why he's so bad. Shit, you could do that for Woodson (although I don't know why anyone would want to). Take LordFootball's response, for instance. 11 guys on the field yet Bush is the sole person to get blame for the return to the 50 yard line. And we all know the one goal of a returner is to beat the first guy.

This is why I like having a GM with objective eyes.

No he isn't. He led the ST with 6 penalties(more than any other Packer ST player in 20 years.) Also led the ST with 6 missed tackles.

That's more than "1 or 2" plays.

He led the team in missed ST tackles because he was always down there first. The first guy on his own should disrupt the return and if possible, make the tackle. Otherwise slow it all down so that the people following can finish it off.

And if we're going to bitch about penalties, let's bitch about Harris and Bigby too.

I ain't saying he's perfect, or great. Just that he's useful in his role.

OK. Harris and Bigby pissed me off, also.

Seriously, on a related note, have you seen this? I think it's just about right.

Bush is okay, but I think its time to give Pat Lee some burn on special teams.

A lot of the draftniks have GB picking a CB (Malcolm Jenkins) in the draft. I'm not sure we'll go that direction, but I could see us taking one in the first three rounds. In that case,

1. Woodson
2. Harris
3. Williams
4. Lee
5. Draft Pick
6. Blackmon

I just don't see the point in bringing Bush back. I guess we could always cut him in TC, but I'd rather spend his reps on someone who could possibly develop.

Bush has a chance to beat out Peprah. He is much better on special teams than Peprah.

He will always be a back up due to his height. He gets in good position but accurate passers and tall receivers are no match.

He certainly is better than Ahmad Carroll or some dumb rookie.
