Interesting article

Ya I wouldn't mind some bigger impact players - rather then 2 '2nd stringers' But I can see TT's logic... in a way

- We do have some players on our team and we might as well use them; although I have doubts about giving bush a big contract and then signing mountgomery if they dont plan on using him much (we'll have to see).

- And we are saving our $ for our key players soon to be without a contract.

- And we do have some time left in the FA to still grab some peeps.

Now if we have a miserable Oline or Dline because of TTs poor moves(lack of). I wont be happy.

In essence, Thompson stood pat. In poker terms, he checked. Many fans and observers are bewildered by the paradox between changing schemes and sitting tight on personnel; in the end it represents a staunch and perhaps stubborn display of confidence in past drafts and the prospects for this year's affair. But let's be clear: The approach has left the Packers with no room for error in the April 25-26 draft and little doubt about how to judge the 2009 season.

This is what kills me.. they all act like the offseason ends on the final day of the draft.

To me, if you have confidence in your roster and your draft board, you allow the draft to get at least through day 1 and probably into the later rounds, then realign your roster board and see if there are still any glaring needs.

The draft breaks funny at times, guys slide.. why not let the draft shake out then re-evaluate the roster and then attack any glaring holes left.

It would sure suck to sign a Holliday, Carter or make a trade for a Levi Jones and then have the draft break where you have a guy fall into you lap, then have a veteran in the way.

Patience.. April isn't September.

Haven't had a chance to read it yet. At work.

Can I assume it's yet another article exaggerating the scheme change and missing the fact that our scheme will be molded to fit our roster and not the other way around?

Yeah, pretty much. And if things go south this year it'll be his fault for refusing to participate in FA. Boilerplate stuff at this point, really.

So if we have another losing season which would be 3 out of 5 years for TT, who do we blame? But i did read the article and basically sounds like we are still rebuilding. I do see a built in excuse with the new defensive scheme already for TT.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Run...run while you can...don't fall into the ESPN babbling heads trap!

Their commentary is the equivilant of an opinionated grade schooler. College is the worst, if you're not from the SEC in football or the ACC in basketball you're nearly non-existant.

Weren't they the ones that started all the Farvre retirement BS when he was only 32-33? I'm not sure but I'm thinking they were.

Ya, I'm up to my knees in the quicksand too.

Well, I've already said multiple times that I would blame Thompson and McCarthy. It's a valid question, but also one most of us have already answered.

The difference is that you're already certain it will be a losing season - in fact, I'd almost wager that you're counting on it.

If the team tanks it in 09, I'll blame the folks who deserve that blame. But I'd rather that they did well, and I'm willing to let the season actually occur before I start calling for peoples' jobs.

So they bring in names like Burnett and Olshansky as guys that should have been brought in? Like those guys are going to be huge difference makers in whether we make this conversion or not? Gimme a break.

Look, the few guys that could have made a difference like Suggs, possibly Canty, and a few others were way overpaid.

So Ted Thompson doesn't bite and overpay somebody just because we are changing a scheme and is now obviously taking a huge gamble because he didn't sign other guys that could not make that big of an impact anyhow.

Makes sense to me.

I'd have over paid a little for a guy who was proven in the 3 - 4 at a position we are weak at.

Exactly. It sucks, but you have to overpay for quality or need.
Ted Thompson is OKAY at drafting and he's great at keeping our own key guys. The problem is that most of our best players are in the prime or slightly past it.

We need to make a run soon or else risk losing a lot of players to age / declining skills (Harris, Driver, Clifton, Woodson, Kampman, Barnett, Pickett, etc.)
Ted Thompson loves the draft and I get it. It gives you a lot of players for a cheap price (besides 1st rounders). But if you fill some needs in FA (Olshansky) than thats one less pick you have to use on a 3-4 DE.

I still like the guy because he's made pretty good moves so far (signing Woodson instead of Lavarr Arrington, drafting Jennings, trading Corey Williams).

Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round

Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
