Read the comments  on this post -- very illuminating as to how fans of other teams perceive our draft.

This was the first year in ages that I missed the NFL draft, and today I have been having a crash-review of all of the hoopla. A ton of stories came from the draft, and we have several new Bears players that we hope will make a solid contribution to the 2009 season.

But, one thing in particular jumped out in my mind, and I haven't been able to quite figure it out... Did the Packers just get good?

All around the NFL world, the Bears and the Vikings have been said to have the best shot at winning the NFC North. And with the 6-10 Packers and 0-16 Lions last year, how could anyone argue that either could make a run in 2009?

But what keeps popping up in my mind is how good, really good, the Packers could be this year. Already having a roster made up of Aaron Rogers, Ryan Grant, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Aaron Kampman, Nick Barnett, AJ Hawk , and the additions of BJ Raji and Clay Matthews in this year's draft, the Packers might try and sneak up on some folks this year.

With the 3rd easiest schedule in 2009 (games against the Bengals, Browns, Lions, Bucs, 49ers), the Pack could feasibly win 9 or 10 games... maybe more. I don't know how good the Packers will be, but I do know that game #1 on September 13th might be a little more important than we think.

Ha, I was reading that too. About 80% of them think our draft and team is rock solid.

Kind of funny that some of them think they will "easily" come out on top of the NFC North....One person even called Aaron Rodgers injury prone (yes, he was injured last year but he played through it.)

If Aaron Rodgers is injured, knock on wood god forbid, I think Matt Flynn or Brian Brohm will step up. Just think about it, Flynn BCS Champion, Brohm top prospect... Could have been a top 10 pick and we got him in the 2nd.

I do think GB is a more complete team than Chicago and I do think they're close enough to Minnesota that the Packers QB situation versus the Vikings will make a difference. I very much view this as three team race. I read a PFW article saying the Packers will win the North and this is prior to the draft so anything is possible.

I found the deliberate misinterpretation of Packer strategy in this comment hilarious:

Raji's overrated.
But they were by far the unluckiest team in the league last year I could see Green Bay 10 6, Chicago 9 7, Minnesota 8 8. They do need a running back though, Ryan Grant is equally overrated.

However, I do like the strategy Green Bay uses with Ryan Grant. Keep him out for eight weeks, then finally put him in after the D-linemen on the other teams have gotten beaten up for those eight weeks, then get 900, 1000 yards. I wonder if well see more of that.

Im a big Aaron Rodgers booster though.

haha ya interesting ...

I do agree thou ryan grant is overrated; IMO I like jackson better ... but whaterver we got a tough fullback for grant to follow behind now. (that is if he makes the roster).

I think Jackson has a chance to win the starting job, if the improvements he's allegedly made are true.

While all MN, Det and Chi did something this off season to improve their teams. Even with that, Green Bay had a draft that give them the best chance of making a drastic improvement for the 09' season.

If Detroit is smart, Stafford will never see the field outside of preseason, Cutler still needs to throw to somebody, and Hester is not that WR. And the opposite with Harvin, he needs a consistent QB for his talent to be fully realized in the Vikings.

Green Bay, got players that should come in a improve the defense from day 1, without being as dependent on others. That 6-10 record was a couple defensive players from a possible 10-6, and those will be back from injury. Add the new additions and assuming the offense doesn't drop off the map and GB will be a tough team in the North with a very good chance of the division title.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
