This was stumbled on by accident ...

Maybe initially I came back for the wrong reasons, It was like, "OK, they don't want me to play, then I'll play somewhere else and show them I can still play.

Sure, you get to an age where people doubt you. Heck, look at any message board and you'll hear 100 people saying he's "washed up." If you were a professional athlete, and you feel you still had ability, wouldn't it be sweet to prove them wrong?

MN is a good fit, any way you slice it. It's the '03 Packers with a real D. Only thing missing is a QB.

I think (I'm talking about the football field, not personal issues) '03 was a great year for Favre. He got to hand the ball off a lot and scored a lot of TDs through the air because Green would get him in position. AP would do the same thing, but as good as Green was, AP is even better.

It's entirely understandable.

BUT.

I do personally wonder how much of this is Brett and how much others affect his decisions. Dude can't possibly feel like he's lacking anything career-wise, save for perhaps another SB ring.

I guess what I'm saying is that if I were in his shoes and felt unwanted after what he achieved, it would bother me. But then I think I'd look at my accomplishments and realize that I had amassed one of the (if not THE) greatest careers for an NFL QB ever, and I'd blow it off.

Unless I had people in my ear saying "You gonna take that from them?! Who do they think they're dealing with? You go to Minnesota and beat 'em a couple times - then they'll get the picture!" Then, depending on who they were, I might get riled enough to make a - IN MY PERSONAL OPINION - foolhardy decision.

Brett Favre has the chance to live a productive, relatively-pain-free life post a very long NFL career - how many of his peers can say that? Me, I'd be happy to take a couple million from Fox, CBS or NBC and stay healthy.

This quote troubles me...

He seems to be saying that he is aware (at the time of the quote) that he had come back for the "wrong reasons". These "wrong reasons" seem to be tied to proving something to the people in the Packers organization who he felt didn't want him to play. It seems to me what he is saying is that a reason to play that is tied to his past team the Packers is a wrong reason.

I don't know if he was being honest here during a moment of serenity, or was merely pandering to the media, who wanted him to be more the calm, honorable hero.

How does this quote mesh in with all of the talk about him still being bitter as hell and wanting to stick it to Thompson?

This is why I'm so troubled. He really seems to have some mental/emotional issues. His commentary about his own drama is shockingly inconsistent.

This was speculated last year in the saga.. and I personally am a firm believer in the fact that Brett is struggling with his next chapter in his life.. the one in which playing becomes past tense.

I shared my experience.. one with which I still struggle with at times today.. not being able to play a game that to you was so much more than a game anymore.

Forever is a hard rigid finality... for some it is easier to counter-dict themselves than face the reality of forever.

I think Brett plays a sort of game of footsie with the finality of retirement from the game.. some days both feet are inside the retirement room but he is too fearful to turn on the light and see what is in the room. Then is slowly back peddles out of the room and back into the familiar setting which has been his life for decades..

Some people say other accept it, why not him. I think the reality is few players actually make the decision on their own.. most are assisted into the room by the fact that they can't play the game any longer and are forced into turning the light on.

Some like Tromadz will call it a victim defense.. I call it more of a accurate reality.

I personally think Brett will keep playing until he totally bombs, Him having a great first 11 games last year showed he could still play thus making him want to play more. There is really nothing wrong with that after all thats what we fell in love with, His competitive spirit.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I watched most of the 16 games. He was damn good for the first 11, enough that I was hoping he'd get his 4th MVP.

I love to see a competitor. Heck, I even followed b-ball with Michael Jordan because he was so fun to watch. When he finally retired, I stopped watching.
