People think that AK is going to be asked to drop back every time he is in?

sometimes people forget what this defense is going to be like

http://www.packers.com/news/stories/2009/05/26/1/

Mike McCarthy has said he feels the 3-4 will help Kampman because the defense can disguise better when he's rushing the passer, and where he's coming from.

http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20090509/BREAKING02/90509009/-1/RSS01?source=rss_breaking

Capers probably won't be asking Kampman to drop into coverage much at about 265 pounds. Capers compares him to Lamar Lathon and Tony Brackens, bigger men who played outside linebacker for him in Carolina and Jacksonville, respectively.

http://www.zimbio.com/Aaron+Kampman/articles/9/Kampman+staying+quiet+uneasy+OLB+switch

Dom Capers: Kampman's position switch might not be as drastic as it seems, given the fact he generally will go back to being a traditional defensive end when the Packers deviate from their base defense with a "sub" package with extra defensive backs.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Kampman is being tight-lipped precisely because he doesn't want to give away information to opposing coaches? Football, like poker, is a game of small edges, and every little bit counts. Kampman has never played this position before, so the less other teams know, the harder will be to scheme against him. If they assume that his responsibilities will have changed drastically and it turns that they haven't changed much at all -- or it's unpredictable when he'll be playing a particular role -- other teams will be caught flat footed, making Kampman even more effective.

Which, incidentally, is just what McCarthy has predicted.

If I were an NFL player, I wouldn't want to talk to the media either. I am too honest. Nothing good would come from me talking to the media.

Interesting theory.

I personally think he's just focused as hell, and sees all of this media crap as a distraction from his learning process. Someone may really want to be a doctor, but it doesn't mean they're all smiles when they're studying, say, Immunology for the first time. They are focused, and probably quiet and a little stressed. Doesn't mean anything except that he's focused, imho.

I like the slant how playing OLB will extend Aaron's career because he won't be beaten on every down by a guy 300+. I'm really going to have to take a wait and see approach on this topic. I just see a lot of possitives in the Peppers trade, however Aaron definitely has the personality/character attributes we strive for in players for GB.

Also this forum has been boring as hell lately and we need something to talk about.

How in the hell does getting Peppers solve the issue. Does not he play a 4-3 as well his whole career?
I am therefor I think.

He's 290 and could play that DE like Mario Williams in Houston, but could also play OLB. That would be one badass DL we put out there.

Peppers has much more athleticism than Kampy, and would be able to play the 3-4 OLB better. What Kampy has over Peppers though is heart, and that can't be taken lightly.

I don't think it would be an even up trade. We would have to pony up a pick as well. I just think Kampmann would be Carolinas best option if they are not able to resolve their problem with Peppers.

93 keeps mentioning the contract, but we'd be giving it to Kampy next year anyway.

You damn skippy I keep mentioning that contract.. because if you think Peppers doesn't want to be in the Haynesworth range as far as money goes.. I think you might be missing what motivates Peppers. Cash.

Peppers has never played in the 3-4.. not back in college, not in the pros.. I might be hard pressed to think of a time he has dropped into coverage.

So now you are taking a 290 pound lanky DE and either playing at DE where he has demonstrated that is not his game, winning at the point of attack.. he is a down hill player. Or you are putting him in a spot of trying to make the same adjustments that Kampy is making but at about 3 times the cost and risk.

It isn't just the amount of money you will put out to this cat.. but the risk of not knowing where he will fit into the defense as well.. Just don't see that much of an impact to offset that type of risk for a player whom has questions surrounding his drive.

This is one of the major reasons I think the Packers never took a serious look at Peppers.. before the draft that is..

Damn, I feel like my Daddy just whooped my ass and sent me to my room.

Anyway, I just think Peppers is one of those special players that wreak some serious havoc on a football field. I think Aaron is a very good football player that can be controlled on a football field.
