Deal IS done!!!

Just like i said.........alot of people hang wringing and blasting Ted Thompson, when i KNEW this was gonna get done.

Some people have NO faith!

Jennings is now the second highest paid WR in the league!

Ol' "Tightwad Teddy" BLEW it with this one, didn't he? (end sarcasm)

A bit more from PFT, Florio usually tends to be very reliable with contract numbers and all of the math stuff.

http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/06/23/more-details-on-jennings-contract/

On the heels of a local Green Bay TV report that Greg Jennings contract extension has been finalized, more details about the proposed deal are emerging.

ESPN.coms John Clayton says the Packers are near a three-year contract extension through 2012 that will include a minimum of $27 million in new money. It can be worth as much as $30 million if he performs at a Pro Bowl level. Jennings was scheduled to make $535,000 in 2009.

Clayton also reports that some language in the contract has to be worked out before it is sent to the NFL Management Council and signed. So its not exactly a done deal just yet.

The original report by Fox6 Sports also said Jennings would become the second highest paid receiver in the league, but that is open for interpretation. It sounds like Jennings base salary will average under $7 million for the next four seasons.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Roy Williams, and Andre Johnson all make as much or more per season. Antonio Bryant will make $9.88 million as Tampas franchise player in 2009.

The deal looks like a fair one for both sides. Jennings didnt break the bank, but hes likely to make it to the end of the contract, barring major injuries. He will get to re-enter the free agent market in 2013 at age 29, and possibly strike it rich again.

Heck, Brett Favre may have even retired by then.

[edit] My thoughts on the matter:

I thought they would be able to sign him for a little less than what it appears they did, but i also can't think of a much better player and person to reward in such a fashion. So while i think its maybe just a little too high, i'm happy for the guy and still think its a good move for the packers.

What I'd like to see?

A long career of Rodgers throwing TDs to Jennings. I know I'm a stat monkey but there are some things I just can't find. Anyone out there know which QB/WR pair has the most TDs together and how many? I just know Brett Favre's main guy was Antonio Freeman and together they had something like 55 or 56. That's pretty far from the top.

Peyton Manning to Harrison is #1 not sure though...
Active leader is Peyton (yet again) to Reggie Wayne, mainly because the Colts throw so much and only had two good WRs for many years
