Has this been mentioned yet?

I was impressed with the level and complexity of the pre-snap motion on defense. People didn't just fake blitz, they fake blitzed in coordination. One guy would move to blitz, and two others would shift to cover the hole he'd leave. Then they would all return to their original spots and the blitz would come from somewhere else. It was, as one player put it, "electric".

Loved that as well. Of course, it's not yet up to Baltimore standards and there where points at which the defense just completely stood still, with the exception of the CB following the WR in man, but they where really toying around with it and there was more cordinated movement in this one pre-season game than we had last year.

Can't wait for the regular season to start.

I hope Rodgers stays healthy all season long. Neither Brohm nor Flynn should be on an NFL roster.

I agree on the Rodgers comment but disagree with the Brohm/Flynn comment. I remember both Favre and Rodgers looking just as bad when they came to GB in their first 2 years. How well did that pan out later? 🙂

I'm anxious for the Bills next for two reasons...

1). They should prove to be a tad better example of an opponent.

2). Like us, the Browns use a 3-4 defense. Meaning the center was basically lined up directly on the nose guard. In a 4-3 different gaps and alignment would be in play, and seeing how the O-line handles those factors will hopefully allow the coaching staff to finally set their starting 5 guys.

I just want the 5 best guys out there and working together for a few weeks before Chicago arrives!

Philbin wants to see how both Spitz and Wells operate against multiple defensive tackles, something he didnt see against the Browns. Cleveland runs a 3-4 defense, which means the center was largely one on one against the nose tackle.

Weve got to see those centers play against somebody other than a guy thats head up on them, Philbin said. Buffalo, my guess is going to have guys off the edges, and we need to see that.

Flynn belongs on our roster more than any FA quarterback that's floating around out there.

Grant was OK but seems to not shake off too many tackles.

I felt that he was much better than how we remembered last year. Of his 6 carries, and of 5 that he was tackled, he was only tackled by a single defender once. And that one was his first carry for a 1 yard loss. So all in all I was given hope by his running. The 14 yard scamper he had a couple plays before the Driver TD reminded me of 2007.

Is it possible that the D had a good day because the Browns didn't have any film on the new 3-4 defense and as we start to play more games teams will be able to plan for it better?

I voted incomplete in the poll, it was a great game to build confidendce. But, it was against the browns.. soo.. The Bills game should be a good test.

Wow. So now we're being apologetic about absolutely manhandling a team because that team is the Browns?

Detroit went 4-0 last preseason. How'd they turn out in the regular season? I'm not saying the Browns will be a great team - I don't know one way or the other, but to act like we can't take some optimism from a game where our team was clearly dominant because it's the preseason and we played the Browns is... well, it's wimpy.

Yes, it's only the preseason. So what? I don't think anyone's putting the team in the Super Bowl based on this performance, but it sure as hell wasn't hard to watch.

Smith made some nice plays, but he needs to lay off the face mask penalties. It was almost completely unnecessary to make that tackle.

"Greg C." wrote:

Smith said afterwards that the facemask penalty was intentional because the other guy got him in the facemask first with that stiffarm, and he thought he was going to miss the tackle unless he grabbed the facemask. So he took the penalty rather than give up a TD. That made me feel a little better about it.

"RainX" wrote:

This angered me from the game. And it made me think, why is it illegal for a defender to put a hand in the face of a offensive player, but not the same in vice versa? It makes no sense to me. If Harris or Woodson get called for illegal hands to the face, how does it differ from a stiff arm?
