First, Brett has done this throughout his career.. and to be honest never was a fan of the tactic.. there are unwritten and written rules in the game for this.. if you are aiming for the knees there is intent past making a play.

Second, what a freaking stupid call for a preseason game.. risking your 12 million dollar QB on a gimmick play. Brilliant Chilly.

Third.. I hope the NFL does drop the hammer on Brett and any other QB that resorts to such a shitty tactic.. either engage the defender or just try to stay in his way.. this will become more prevalent with the wildcat.. so nip that shit in the bud.

And finally the Texans have got to be starting to hate the Vikings a bit.. last year Allen took the knees out of Schaub.. this year Wilson..

What has me really pissed about this hit, is not that it was Brett, not that it was a Viking. It was a QB. For all the bitching they do about defenders hitting them low, to go and throw a block like this is ridiculous.

What I get appalled with is posting on a Packer Forum as a Packer fan and told I have Green and Gold glasses or drink the Green Kool Aid. Guess what, no shit Sherlock, I'm going to take my teams point of view.

Had to +1 you for this. I'm amazed nobody's mentioned it before. If you don't have a pair of Green and Gold glasses, why the fuck are you here?

On topic: Is was a lousy block, but I don't buy that there was malicious intent. The man's just not a good blocker. Nonetheless, I'll be disappointed if he's not fined - rules is rules, right? The real question is WTF Chilly's thinking putting his 40 y/o QB out blocking a Wildcat play in the 3rd quarter of a preseason game - that's just insanely stupid.

Dhazer and trip, I suggest you rewatch the replay because he hits him with his left shoulder and you can clearly see if you pause the video that I think non posted at 2:56 his left shoulder is at knee height or just barely above it.

Favre's not a dirty player and I seriously doubt he had any malicious intent in this block. It was just flat out stupid, cowardly poor blocking. Favre's only thoughts were probably make this block so I protect myself, which I wouldn't blame a quarterback for doing. You shouldn't put your quarterback in a position where you're asking him to lay someone out with a block, it's not smart (unless maybe you're talking about some with McNabb's build and you teach them right... but I still wouldn't do it). Favre should get fined for the block and Childress should be bitch slapped for being a moron.

As for this block being just like all of Favre's other blocks, I don't remember Favre ever doing a crackback block before. He always used to dive at people's feet on end arounds and what not and while I never was a big fan of this, cut blocks out in the open are legal. The chance of injuring someone with a cut block out in the open when they can see you coming, while higher than that of a regular block, is rather slim and that's why it's allowed. The illegal crackback block where you go below the waist gives the defender zero chance to defend himself and that's why it's so risky.

Dakota:

I would call it about the correct dosage of purple bullshit, then.

It isn't like we are inundated with it, and you know as well as I that Formo's (and the other purple guys running around willy-nilly in here) perspective give us 100 times as much perspective and flavor than their numbers as members would indicate.

I say if Formo wants to put up his purple-goggled bullshit, he will expect and get the green goggled bullshit in return. He knows that. He is incapable of looking at it objectively--this he does not know, at least sometimes, imo. I know this because I read his stuff both here and there.

I know I too am incapable of objectivity, because I read the crap I put up both here and there as well.

I guess that was the long version of he means no harm, he is merely saying it like he sees it, however wrong he might be. He rates, and you damn sure do if you want to call him out on it.

Me? I ENJOY taking on those 8000 or so crazy fools. Why? Unlike a huge percentage of so-called Vikings fans in Minnesota, that seem to not support a very good football "product" unless the weather is quite fair, those people at P.P.O. remind me of a bunch of people whose "fandom" I definitely respect...

I know our Viking buddies are good guys, but when they say things like that would you have someone like me not respond? He and I have been arguing this topic for a while now, and the fires have been rekindled. I don't think I will cut my nuts off in the spirit of hospitality though. We're big boys, I don't think anyone has shed tears.

There is a difference between a bad tackle and a cheap shot.

This was a bad tackle.

The major difference here is that on this play, he was lined up wide as a receiver, and since he cracked back in toward the play, the move was therefore illegal
