I found this on the SI Truth&Rumors Section, where they got it from the Green Bay Gazette.

It's starting to look like A.J. Hawk is going to have to accept a reduced role in the Green Bay Packers' defense. As long as Nick Barnett's reconstructed right knee can handle a full workload, the Packers are considering using Barnett and Brandon Chillar as the inside linebackers in the nickel defense. Such a move would cut Hawk's snaps almost in half, considering the nickel is used every time opposing offenses line up with more than two receivers. What's more, it means that 3 1/2 years after making him the fifth overall pick in the draft, the Packers might be conceding that Hawk is not an every-down player.

I know this makes some of our posters happy. 😉

Well.....who knows what will happen.
Besides, maybe cutting his snaps might make him play better. He might be better in situational playing.

They had just said in the jsonline blogs that he has been grading out extremely highly in the preseason so far, when the coaches review the film.

Until something official happens, I don't care to speculate.

I am sure there are many player moves, the coaches are considering. Hell, I bet they have even asked if Flynn should start over Rodgers (sure only for 1/2 second).

If it turns out true, then it will be in the best interest of the team, so I am for it.

This has been in the making for a season and a half.. this offseason was not the beginning.. but I think I have said my piece of Hawk.. solid reactionary linebacker.. but falling short of his potential coming out of college..

Someplace someone tempered his instincts and fire..

that article is probably 3 weeks old by the way. But like someone already said, within the last couple days the blogs have gone over hawk, and apparently he has one of the top grades from the coaches this preseason. The only knock against him is the lack of big plays, which with a high grade the coaches are willing to wait for. They said he is VERY consistent and isn't making any mistakes out there.

I am glad to hear Hawk is doing well in practice. Considering his high draft position I have been rather disappointed in his level of play. I had hoped he would be flying all over the field and making Pro Bowl caliber plays. As it is he has been more of an "average" LB. I am glad Chillar is so good at pass coverage. GB needs a few LB would can stay with a potential receiver.

I think Hawk is a good plugger on running plays but lacks the speed and quickness to be an explosive player. During the preseason game against the Browns, they showed some footage of Hawk from college, and he looked slimmer, especially in the hips, and faster. Somewhere in the transition from college to pro he turned into a wide body. It's all muscle, but there's too much of it.

I was hoping that Hawk would prove the doubters wrong in training camp, but I sure haven't seen much from him.
