Wrong, the Vikings write Brett's checks, not the Jets.

As for Tannenbaum owning it. What was he supposed to do? Deny it? Have a circus around his team with a new staff? Or just own it and pay the fine and move on? Innocent or not, I'd have done the same thing. Own it, pay it, move on to the season at hand.

True or False.
If Brett doesn't mention anything about the injury and stating he would have been receptive to being benched... do the Jets get the fines?

False. They don't.

It's amazingly cut and dry, regardless of who was more wrong or not. If Brett doesn't squeal, no fine. What's so hard to grasp about that? You're going back and back and back ... but the FACT is. If Brett doesn't mention it, the Jets do not get the fines levied. I find it amusingly amazing you won't acknowledge that.

Were the Jets wrong. Sure, just as EVERY team is for not properly disclosing injuries.

Was Brett wrong for playing? No, not at all. He told his team of his injury, they were aware and all parties understood that Brett at, hell, 70% is better than any QB on the Jets roster. And I don't think Brett should be fine as I said.

My point, Jets right or wrong, he shouldn't say things about them anymore because he's a Viking. And the same would go if Brett leaves the Vikings and plays for another team, he has no right to discuss his tenure with the Vikings while collecting paychecks from a new employer (NFL team that is).

Maybe it was resting on his conscience and he wanted it off?

While perhaps a noble thought, sometimes unburdening one's conscience is the most selfish and cruel thing one can do. What good does it accomplish? Nothing. All it does is break her heart and fill her with doubts about their relationship, leaving her wondering if it's all been a big lie. It's far better, in my opinion, having hidden it that long, to just take the guilty secret to his grave -- he can confess it to a random priest if he feels he must unburden himself -- and let her live in peace. Yes, he can hope for forgiveness, but the far more likely result is heartache and bitterness. If he's going to confess his transgression, he should do so as soon as possible after the indiscretion occurs, thereby allowing her the chance to make an informed decision whether to continue the relationship and grant him forgiveness.

Similarly, if this really troubled Favre so much, he should have notified the NFL last year that something questionable was taking place. Blabbing now -- in a public forum, no less -- accomplishes no good and only brings his motives into question.

I agree with Zero2Cool that regardless of whether I was guilty or not, I'd simply pay the fine to get the issue over with as quickly as possible. Just as with many frivolous lawsuits, it's often far cheaper simply to settle than to go through years of protracted litigation in which the lawyers' meters are continually running.

I was unaware of the rule that you can't talk about another team while under contract with a team.

I was going back and back and back because we all knew this.. This wasn't big news. All of the sudden, Tannenbaum talks to reporters about this (after Favre, AGAIN, mentions it) and the Jets get slapped on the wrist.

And it's Favre's fault?

Bottom line, Mangini and Tannenbaum put Favre on the injury list (while still playing him.. A novel idea!!!), they don't get fined.. Regardless of Favre's mouth.

What don't you get about that?

Great analogy. But still.. The wife will get over it, as the hubby came clean by himself. What would be worse is the wife finding out about it, and drilling her husband about it until he confessed. THAT'S where the doubts, pain, heartache TRULY comes from. I know from experience that no matter the pain, the truth ALWAYS sets you free.

BTW, my reply to that analogy had no connections to the debate at hand.

Similarly, if this really troubled Favre so much, he should have notified the NFL last year that something questionable was taking place. Blabbing now -- in a public forum, no less -- accomplishes no good and only brings his motives into question.

I'm not saying whether it's right or not.. And like I said.. We already don't know his motives, but that could be one of them. We don't know, and probably never will.

But, like I've said in my last few posts: The only news here is the fact that the Jets got their slap on the wrist. We all already knew Favre played hurt. It just wasn't until Tannenbaum confessed (which, BTW Zero, is the right thing to do, and I commend him on that), that they got their fine.

Oh, don't get me wrong.. I'm not against the fine, nor am I all wadded up about the Jets doing something wrong. It's nice to see some officials man up in this society today.

My whole issue was how so many (including Florio) were so quick to put the blame on Favre.

I don't really put any blame on Favre, per se. If the Jets truly did something wrong, they obviously deserve some punishment, even if it's essentially a slap on the wrist. I'm mainly commenting on his seeming ability to keep his thoughts to himself. He seems to have an almost childish diarrhea of the mouth lately. He certainly lacks tact. Some like to "ohh" and "ahh" over his honesty, but it strikes me as immaturity.

Absolutely agreed.

It's interesting comparing Favre's diarrhea of the mouth to Thompson's tactful reticence and the response they both elicit from the fan base. A lot of people in the Midwest tend to feel distrustful toward someone who is smart enough to occasionally keep their mouth shut, I think.

I agree the Jets should have put him on the injury report. No question. They didn't, just like every other team fails to put every player on the injury report.

The difference is, Favre has a big mouth and it cost his former employer some cash. He keeps his mouth shut, the Jets suffer the same penalty as every other team, none.

Wow, that was easy to understand.
