When Clifton went down, was moving 3/5ths of the line the best option? To me all that did is weaken almost the entire line. Spitz practices all week at C, Colledge at LG. I would try to keep them in their best spots if possible.

Would it have made more sense to put Lang in? Either at LT or LG. Leaving Spitz at C would have left the right side intact. and could have used a TE full time to help out on the Left. It is easier to protect against 1 hole than 2 or 3 smaller holes.

Much like last year, with moving Hawk and Woody out of their normal positions. All this did Sunday was made three smaller holes instead of 1 bigger.

Colledge was not performing as a LG either, imo. I know Zero put up some reasonable attempts at solutions in the (As I personally view it - :thumbleft: ) Foster is panicking thread, but I don't think that dump-offs and screens are going to be any kind of real panacea for this line. I would start by signing some free agents. I have mentioned Runyan ad-nauseum for RT, so I will not rehash that. I hope they are considering it. Moving Colledge to LT is pure disaster, imo. My God, half of our extreme troubles Sunday were when we were in max-protect mode. Put everyone back in their original positions, put the respective back-ups in the correct positions after having done that, scour the FA list minute-by-minute, practice screens and dump-offs until the light bill gets prohibitively expensive, and pray. Pray alot.

And light a fire under some tragically under-performoing football players.

Not advocating a REAL fire yet, but gimme a week on that issue.

One... Colledge went on a sprained foot.. by his lack of movement in his feet, I think he should have been pulled from the game. He was limited in his movements.

Two... It further highlights the bind that we are in.. we went on the final roster with little "ready" depth at tackle. Period. This was oversight or a failed risk.

Three.. So much for MM statement of not playing musical chairs with the offensive line.. he went with what he felt was the best lineup, regardless of shuffle it had to cause. Understandable, but contradicting his own statements.

Four... I give two pinches less for the collective excuses from either MM or Campen on the performance of the offensive line.. this happy BS dates back to the 2006 season.. and it is redundantly clear that the development of the offensive line has been slow and inconsistent. We have ran a number of players through this team and it is the same story. For my money.. it is well past time that the offensive line coaches have to pay for this performance.

This group has not and continues to the a roller coaster of performance, and at this level that is not acceptable.

There has been plenty of talk about, bringing in another player, getting back tot he basics of the WCO of what ever.

I am trying to look at this move and the similar ones last year. I said it was a bad idea moving Hawk inside last year, a move that left both the ILB and OLB spot weaker. Same with Moving Woody. The result was weaker CB and S instead of just weaker S.

This move Sunday did the same thing. Instead of having a weakness at LT, this move made all three LT,LG and C weaker. After all the talk of keeping continuity in the line, this move went directly against that plan.

I think under normal circumstances, this would have been the right move. However, with the benefit of hindsight, I think Colledge's sore foot was the straw that broke the camel's back. Playing guard didn't require him to be real nimble on his feet, but as a tackle you have to keep those feet moving, and keep them underneath you with a wide base all the time. Because of his injury, he couldn't do that.

To answer the question directly, you finally have some consistency at the interior positions and then you blow that by shifting a it around, further weakening a position that is under fire along the edges.

Honestly, I would not have shifted the line until that was the last available option.. their blitz stunts started to become effective right after the shift.. they attacked that right side heavy then.

Bring in Lang or Breno... let them prove that they can't get it done before you louse up the timing of the rest of the line.

But again.. it highlights a gaping hole in the roster.. depth at tackle. Hell on the right side, we aren't up to par at starter through two games.

What is especially infuriating about it:

1. Any idiot could see this coming.

2. There is a sense that it has to be absolutely BEATEN into our coaches heads just how bad it is.

3. We will never realize the REAL potential of this football team--real in the sense that elsewhere we have the necessary weapons but they will remain stymied by this unit.

4. Blaming Aaron Rodgers, fairly or unfairly--He is trying to make shit happen...I don't blame him. Thing is EVERYONE KNOWS he needs more time than Brett, for example--- ACT accordingly--priority-wise, personnel-wise...Don't blame him, for cripes sake-- It is part of what makes him go. He does not act in an anticipatory manner--

5. This can all be traced back to the ridiculous notion of an NFC North team adopting a ZBS scheme--- Not the scheme (100th time I have tried to emphasize this point) but the personnel deemed to be a "fit" for that scheme.

About a week ago Nonstopdrivel said it best. MM is playing with fire, here.

That fire is raging.

Just my opinion of course, but I really don't think there's any "right move" with this line right now. Picks 1-5 next draft should be used on all new people! I'm kidding of course, but MY GOD!

3. This is screwing over our D. They're on the field too long, and looking worse than they really are. Let's be real here. You can have a decent D but if the O never gives them a chance to take a breath, they will be exhausted. So yes, the OL is bringing down the entire team.

4. Aaron has done pretty damn well for what he has to work with. Yes, he has missed key passes. But put in any of the top tier QBs today behind this OL and see how they fare.
