Turn up the pressure, Mr. Capers. I think that we're playing against the run too badly at this point. We need some more of that pre-season blitzing. It might be more risky, but eventually, it'll pay off. Just look at Baltimore and the Jets. You don't get aynwhere by playing vanilla defense. That sack amount has to get up. And just imagine where that interception amount can go to.

And that total points amount from our offense is just amazing. I mean, with the amount of sacks we're giving up and the way our O-line is playing, we still manage to put up huge amounts of points. Makes you respect Rodgers that much more, just look at his numbers.

6 TDs, 1 Int, 60.6%, 1098 Yards, 101.1 QB Rating. That's just amazing.

Have the packers not been blitzing because the first 4 opponents strengths were the running game? So they were just so focused on stopping the run?

That seemed to be the problem last night. Capers wanted to shut down AP, which he did, then he put a lot of guys back into coverage and tried to make Favre beat us, which he did.

I would have preferred to see a lot more blitzes. Sure, with a QB like Favre you always run the risk of exposing yourself if you blitz, but he was carving us up anyways.

I think Capers (and the Packers defence) was embarassed a bit by Cedric Benson in week two, when the Packers were still blitzing from all angles. To me it seems Capers has got a bit gun-shy and has dialled back the blitzes in the last two games - albeit against two great running backs.

I was saying this all through the preseason, so I'll say it here now that the statistics back me up:

Leading the league in interceptions is a symptom of a BAD defense, not a good one. And look where we're at -- number 2 in the league. In that category alone. In every other category, we're near the bottom.

A defense that must rely upon turnovers to stay in the game is like a batter who always swings for the fences. You might lead the league in home runs, but you're also going to lead the league in strikeouts. Consistent base hits are far more valuable to a team than occasional homeruns.

But when you have Prince Fielder, you really don't want him to go for the base hits. You want him to hit it out of the park.

Point being is that I don't think this has something to do with our bad defense. We just have a huge amount of ballhawks in the secondary. If our defense got some more pressure, I'm pretty sure that the number would skyrocket even more. Pretty much like Darren Sharper has benefitted from a more aggressive defense in NO.

Obviously, we'll get some more 3 and outs, so it might eventually even out, but I don't think that our interception amount is because of our bad defense. Especially if we wouldn't play such a huge amount of gap control and contain defense, we'd get a lot more pressure and we should be able to force a lot more mistakes.

I don't mind the 3.5 YPC after going against 4 pretty damn good RBs. Not all defensive signs are bad. You have to be able to stop the run. We just need pressure on those 3rd and longs, and we aren't generating any.

Our run defense is the highlight of our defense, without a doubt. I'd prefer a 3-and-out to an interception any day of the week, though (particularly Sunday). That means we're winning the battle along the line where it counts.

I think we're closer to being a 3-and-out type defense than we were last year, without a doubt. It all starts with stopping the run. This defense IS still adjusting to the zone blitz schemes under Capers. When we don't get to the QB on those 3rd and long downs, it's going to be really apparent how much we're still learning the system.

I'm refraining from venting about Martin again...
