GB plays a lot of nickel and Chiller is on the field at that time. I think it's a smart move. I am surprised he got this much, but with an uncapped season coming up, he would've probably got that much from some big market team. Probably Dallas, who could be in the market for a 3-4 linebacker.

As far as Nick Collins goes. He's making over three million this year which is a lot of money regardless of a contract extension. I think, since it's an uncapped year, you wait until the off season to extend his contract. Too me, Ryan Pickett would be next on my list.

I like the signing, and was very surprised when I saw how much money it was. However, I was excited to see that Ted Thompson realizes that he could be in a shit hole if he doesn't start getting to work now.

I think next in line (priority wise) should be Ryan Pickett. From there I would go:

2: Nick Collins
3: Tramon Williams
4: Aaron Kampman? I think there's another big namer going into FA but my mind is shooting a blank right now. (<<-no pun intended).

I do think that there are a few players that are way more important to this team than Aaron Kampman right now.

If we can get an opportunity to get a good OLB in the draft, I think Kampman is gone.

I agree except for number 4.

I would say franchise Kampman and trade him at draft day for a pick or some help in the 3-4 D. We're doing pretty darn good without his presence unless and a big unless he wants to sign for less to stay on the team. Then it would be bad behalf his game and our team.

if Chillar is getting all of it I agree that sounds like too much... but I'm guessing some of it is based on how much he plays... like he'll get 3 million no matter what and he he plays 75% of the defense snaps he'll get two more million for 5 million...

Also some have been guessing that they will move Chillar to OLB next year and let him compete against Brad Jones for the starting spot and if he loses he's be the first back-up for the whole LB group...

what the what? Seems to me to be a reach at 21 million for chillar. You have some young guys like Bishop and jones that are much cheaper and locked up allready.
I have said it before Ted Thompson if hes anything it aint predictable.

It wouldn't make much sense to franchise a player who is rehabbing a torn ACL. He won't be worth that much money, not knowing how he'll recover, and nobody would take him in a trade.

You don't want to franchise Kampman. We'd be giving a guaranteed contract for around $9 million to an injured player who doesn't fit our scheme. Especially with all the guys that do fit who need extensions.

You have to let him walk because he would probably sign that franchise tag in heart beat to guarantee him some immediate casholla.

As far as Chillar goes, he and Pickett are the only two major contributors whose contracts expire this season who will not restricted free agents.

Chillar is also our major TE stopper which will be big in our division (Olsen, Shiancoe, Pettigrew). He plays most passing downs, and is our top back up at OLB and ILB. We've all been clamoring for proven depth and we got it with Chillar.

Up next:
1. Collins
2. Pickett
3. Jolly (lowball him during his off-field stuff)
4. Tramon Williams
5. Bigby (our defense is so much better with him on the field)

Excellent post, millertime, and I agree with your list of free agent priorities. Bigby is valuable because we don't have a viable backup at safety. It would be nice to have someone better than Bigby back there, but I think it's okay to have one good safety who can cover space (Collins) and one average one who plays tough.

We've had so much bad safety play on this team in recent years (Antuan Edwards, Mark Roman, Marquand Manuel, Aaron Rouse) that I'm very happy to have Bigby back there.
