Now, I do not believe this season is over by a long shot, and hopefully we will come out all guns blazing against Seattle, and hopefully that transitions to our trip to the dessert, a very winnable game. I still believe we have the tools to make a deep run in the playoffs and maybe more.

After yesterday's defensive debacle I got to thinking about what our
needs are in the coming draft. After the first 8 games of the season the glaring need was for offensive line talent, the tackle positions being a particular cause for concern however, I think with what happened at Pittsburgh our needs may have taken just a slight shift.

Make no mistake, the game was a freak incident, from the air battle to the yards to the points, however,

Whilst the offensive line positions are still far from stable, I think a more pressing need is a good, NFL ready back up corner.

Our linebacker corps is capable of dealing with injuries and there is a definate depth there, perhaps the deepest in the league.

Currently Woodson, Harris and Williams are the trident who are more than capable of stopping any passing attack. However, the issue lies with injury. With Harris out, we all know Bush is not competent and though I cannot judge Bell based on a 1st game play, I do know that the last play of the game was not automatic and would probably have been stopped by alot of corners in the league.

A capable, battle tested fourth corner is a MUST for consistency, we have managed to keep our D Line and Linebacker play solid despite injuries and the only way to try and ensure no repeats of yesterday is to sign one in free agency, or stockpile during draft time.

I am in favour of signing just one free agent corner, someone who is experienced and has been around. Even with Woodson and Harris ageing, I think it's another year at the least before we consider their retirement during draft time.

I say, Draft tackles, guards and chance at a corner but please, please sign a veteran, NFL ready cornerback who can inspire even a little confidence, because at the moment, with Bush/anyone beneath him on the depth chart starting, I don't expect to win games, just accept the wins as they are when they come.

I think Brandon Underwood would have been the best option out there, to be honest with you. I'm pretty sure he was inactive for this game. Does anyone know how long he's been hurt? Kid looked like he had some talent in the preseason. If healthy, he could very well be a "solid" dime back.

Here's to hoping he gets healthy soon!

It's a shame that they put Lee on IR, I really would have liked to see what he's got.

Part of the problem is we have 3 CBs on IR.

Next season they should all be back and we'll be looking much healthier.

This group isn't too bad to go into training camp with and almost certainly a draft pick will be added to it.

Woodson
Harris
Williams
Lee
Blackmon
Underwood
Bell
Ford

When it comes to CB I prefer to go with youth at the position rather than signing vets. Despite our ageless wonders Woodson and Harris, its a position which puts a premium on speed and athleticism.

It's certainly a need (or will be in a year or two) but I don't see there being much in the way of free agents available if there is no CBA. All the better young players will be restricted free agents and teams will have an extra tag to keep hold of the good ones.

You know, I actually think Josh Bell has a chance to be a decent back up. He had good coverage while he was in there. Hell, everyone gets scored on.

He had good coverage on that last play, and I'm sure it would have been a LOT harder to make that play than it looked. I'm hoping that Josh Bell will replace Jarret Bush.

Also, I think CJ Spiller (OMG I WANT HIM SO BAD) is a MUST draft if he is still available. You can never have enough play makers.

However, I think that if Joe Haden is available when we are picking, we should take him. He's supposed to be a very good corner coming out of Florida.

Yeah, even though I agree CB is definately a need, it didn't help that we were without Harris, Lee, Blackmon, and Underwood in Sunday's game. How many teams can recover from being without 4 of your top 7 CBs? I like Underwood and I think he has a chance to be a good one. I wish Ted Thompson would make an exception for drafting a short CB this year and take Javier Arenas, kid is the next Antoine Winfield and he's an electric return man as well.

I actually played Joe Haden when I was a freshman or sophomore in high school. Believe it or not, but he actually played QB in high school. Me being a DE/OLB had to chase him around all day, which was a B!*$#. I'm glad to say I got 2 sacks against him... even though one of them was on a bad snap 😉
