Keep him.

Then next year, at Lambeau just move the uprights 3 feet to the right.

No one will notice...

That will take care of his challenge for 8 games at least.

Well one good thing could come out of keeping Crosby. We can play to go for it on 4th and be able to throw short on 3rd.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Btw, for those who are saying Crosby is in a "slump"

In 2007 he was 24th in fg percentage.
In 2008 he was 26th.
In 2009 he is 31st.

He isn't in a slump. He just isn't a very good kicker. Never has been.

Couple of quick notes on Crosby..

* I think he has a world of talent

* I think our special team coaches tinker too much with the mechanics of successful college athletes and do more damage than good.

* I think the Mason is overthinking the game right now.. placing more pressure than he should on the little things.. relax and let those endless hours of practice take over.. not the mind under artificially enhanced pressure.

* I think if the Packers have playoff success in mind, I would at least entertain the idea of plan B in the kicking department. I am all for giving him time to get it right.. but that time is probably expired without starting to explore B.

* I hope he kicks 5 FG's this week to boost his confidence and get the monkey off his back.

One big problem with the concept of getting him to aim left. We tried that.

(In the chat--lol--- He was missing left---hooking them, remember?)

I have a new plan. It's called "zone kicking".

It's a different kind of "zone" than most would associate with football, though.

Field goal kicking is strikingly similar to two sports near and dear to my heart, and for me personally, there are "zones" in both of them.

Drinking zones.

My zone in pool is rather wide, but quite narrow in golf. Now this doesn't stop me from "blowing through" both zones, but I definitely know when I am within their loving confines as they occur. The trick is to know the zones and stay there.

It also should be noted that many golfers have a much wider zone than I possess, and happily ride it through a round of golf. I think it would be important to know if Mason is like me (narrow) or my golf buddies (wider), as golf is most closely associated with field goal kicking, once you get the silly technical aspect (skill) out of the way and concentrate on the much more important aspect...mental.

So instead of changing holders, or changing aim-points, or for that matter, doing any kind of field-goal practice, they should charter a jet and a helicopter (at his destination) and take Mason golfing. Beer is the preferred beverage, as it is easily regulated. When he starts "zoning" on the golf course , put him on the helicopter and take him to a football field, having him practice field goals. Keep feeding him beer until he goes all willy-nilly again. Now you know his zone. (A "b.a.c. meter" would be perfect).

Now just keep him maintained at that b.a.c. for the remainder of our games, he might be a tad bit much to put up with DURING the game...

"GD IT McCARTHY, put me in there, I can kick this 70 yarder...70 yards ain't SHIT, you fat f#cker" and such...

Hey, it works in pool... :thumbleft:

Mason was doing fine 49 and under for a decent portion of the season. The last four or five games, he's royally sucked with every field goal and giving us heart attacks on extra points too.

Using a field goal kickers percentage blindly is not really responsible at all. There's different ranges, climate controlled environments, amount of attempts, etc that factor into the likelihood of making a field goal. If you want to just straight up go by percentage, yes his percentage blows goats. 80% is the desired amount. Just checked, guess who had 80% his rookie year, Mason Crosby, in which he was 9 of 14 from 40-49, which leaves room for improvement.

39 and less, you should be 90% or above.
50+ anything better than 50% is bonus.

Finding a kicker who can nail them from 40 - 49 with a 85% hit rate I think is a better way of defining a good kicker from a stat.

2009, Crosby is
57% from 40 49, freaking terrible.
90% from 39 and less, that should be automatic.
20% from 50+ is not good especially when at least one of those was in a dome!

Long story short, using a kickers overall percentage is not always the best way to rate a kicker, in Crosby's case, it's a wash. He's made the ones he's supposed to make and missing a larger percentage of the ones he should make, 40 - 49.
