Something that occurred to me this morning is I wonder if Favre's performance this year will spark a debate about the necessity of training camp, at least for veterans. If he can sign on in August, have a great season, and lead a team to the NFC Championship, what could other players do without the grind of offseason training? It wouldn't surprise me to see vested veterans attempt to negotiate clauses in their contracts that reduce their offseason obligations. Something to watch for.

I don't think that will become an issue for any other position other than QB because although the veteran players wont need the game planning portion of the offseason training they will need the conditioning of it, maybe even more so than the younger players.

For example Brett may not need the offseason conditioning because (although it inevitably happens) hes not meant to get hit but for say another vet like woodson or driver their position needs the conditioning aspect because they need to be able to take the physical punishment of an NFL season and the sooner they start preparing for it the better off they will be.

I don't see it as an issue either. There are very few players with Favre ability. He is rare and unique. But like you say it will be interesting to watch and see what happens.

Poetic justice at it's finest. Blame the refs even though the Saints were flagged more. Blame the 4 lost fumbles. Blame Balldress for allowing 12 men in the huddle.

At the end of the game, ball is in his hands, he makes yet another boneheaded throw that costs his team a trip to the Super Bowl.

He might not be completely to blame considering the rest of his offensive weapons had a severe case of fumblia, but he deserves at least part of it for making yet another stupid throw just like in '03 and '07 with Green Bay.

I still would have preferred that it were the Packers who dealt the heartbreaking blow in the NFC Championship game. Surely the Packers would have comported themselves better than the Saints did last night. That game was atrocious.

Sad article for those that care about Favre's last game.

"Yet in other ways it was not routine at all. Vikings' defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier sat down next to Favre and hugged him, speaking into Favre's left ear. When Frazier stood, quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers approached, showered and wearing a suit, and hugged Favre.

Next came wide receiver Sidney Rice. Over the course of their one season together, Rice flourished with Favre, with 83 receptions in the regular season and then three touchdown catches last week in the divisional playoff victory over the Cowboys. Rice is 23 and Favre is 40. Rice made Favre young; Favre made Rice grow up. They were good together. Now Rice stood in front of Favre with a towel around his waist and they embraced until Favre dropped his head into the crook of Rice's neck and his eyes welled with tears."

If it were scripted to have that pick be caught by Woodson, THAT would be much, much better.

I've said virtually everything I'm going to say about this game itself in another thread.

I'll only add two things here.

1. That my sympathies are out to Formo and Vikesrule. This was not the game _you_ good guys deserved. I don't mind that the Vikings lost -- I am a Packer fan, after all 🙂 -- but for so many reasons, that kind of game is not the way I'd want to lose.

2. I know its tempting as Packer fans to gloat. And I'd be lying if I said I haven't done some of it. But think about what it says about us when we do. Think about when the Packers lose, and think about how you would feel if the Packers lost a game *this* way.

Good natured ribbing is fine. But think about how, after one of those Packer losses, the ribbing goes too far and becomes gloating. And think about how you might view that gloating. Think of how it reveals the true character of those particular Viking or Bear or Cowboy fans. And how what it reveals is not pretty.

The world has no shortage of classlessness. Packer fandom, however, is supposed to be comprised of higher life-forms. We should have.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I give you a +1.
I have many Vikings fans and I feel for them. I feel for the guys on this board that are Vikings fans. They really do add quality (and spice) to the site.
But Brent has really turned my stomach in the past couple of years. I will be glad when he stays down for the count (for real) and we can get past all the animosity that was created. For now I do enjoy the Vikings loss more than the Saints win. I do enjoy his "final" pass being an int instead of running for the 1st down. If that is classlessness then so be it.
