10 days ago Iran again called for the complete destruction of Israel.

2 days ago Israel demanded immediate sanctions against Iran.

Demanded.

Immediate.

What was it, 2 days ago? Iran threatened the west with something apocalyptic...

The winds of war are not only brewing, I'd characterize them as bubbling.

I'm betting pre-emptive strike by Israel any day now if the world doesn't listen to them, I give it 60/40 in favor...

I used to be an Israel supporter. I no longer am. They've been instigating conflicts for far too long. As far as I am concerned, they need to live with the consequences of their actions. They've managed to win all the wars in the Middle East so far, but this isn't 1967 anymore. If they get themselves firebombed into oblivion, I can't say I'll feel terribly sorry for them.

I'm not singling out Israel here. Any country that constantly pokes people in the eye needs to be prepared to take the consequences. That goes for Iran, too. I just don't see any sense in picking a fight with Iran. Let someone else do it, preferably that pipsqueak country of Israel who's just itching for a fight.

A terrible part of me could care less whether the middle east glows in the dark or not.

The mora historio-cynical part of me says that none of the parties much listens to anything we say. And that if they want to move to a more civil society, they're going to have to do it there between themselves.

That apart from taking the "we're the biggest baddest motherfucking military power in the world and you're going to do it our way or die" (which I'm neither advocating nor saying anyone should), I think the best thing we can do is ignore all the bastards until they threaten our shores.

If they want to live as tribal societies, then let them beat each other up with whatever they want. Life's too short to waste it on people who can't get past grudges and the evils of dead people.

Contrary to popular belief we need what they have (i.e. their oil) far less than people think.

If the politicos want to spend their time on junkets and stroking of any of the disputants, that's fine....Just make sure they are transported on one-way tickets.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Fair enough. I'm not saying we should just agree to disagree...(on political matters, imagine that, lol)

There is no glory in war. War is death, destruction, mutilation and the insanity of searing men's souls. And those "lucky" ones that do not die, are never quite the same again.
War should be avoided at almost all costs. Every measure should be taken to keep from going to war. Always.

However and if at a last resort, war becomes necessary, it should be fought with total commitment and aggression.
Kill and destroy everyone and everything in the way. Completely. Leave no one and nothing standing.
None of the half-assed, bullshit "commitments" that have been the bane of our country since World War II.
None of the "surgical" strikes, none of the worrying of collateral damage.
It's war, people will die, and you make it as horrifying as possible.

The following quotes are from a man that understood this concept very well.....I know of what he spoke.

"I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell."

"Every attempt to make war easy and safe will result in humiliation and disaster."

"War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over."

VERY good post Vikes. And you are right. We have gone into battles "half assed" and our troops suffered unnecessarily because of that approach.

Some reading what i write might think i'm a war monger. Thats NOT true at all. I WANT us to avoid war. But the sad fact is, if you don't defend yourself, it is seen as weakness to those that want us dead. If we had gone into battle and did as you said in your post, maybe our enemies would not always want to see how far they can push us.

Non.....you are a very educated person. And i find it hard to understand your being so naive about Iran and Israel. Iran and those around there have been trying to take Israel's land for thousands of years. Yet you blame them for fighting back? Daring to fight for what is there's?

And 30 years ago American's were taken hostage. Do you want that kind of thing to happen again? If you don't learn from those types of things, they WILL happen again. Plus....i bet you would feel differently if one of those hostages was you, or one of youe loved ones. It's easy to turn your back and say "so what? It was 30 years ago!" Yeah...well.....there are still people like Adolph Hitler in the world today. If you ignore the past, and don't learn from it, it WILL happen again. And with the wepons they have today? If Hitler had had a nuke, you KNOW he would have used it. People like that don't reason things out. they just ACT on their desires.

Oh....and Iranian people.
I lived with one back in the 1980's. He had been in the Iranian navy. Then he moved here, became a U.S. citizen, renouncing his Iran as his country. He joined the U.S. Navy. Did his time there. On the outside, he appeared to be a U.S. citizen that LOVED America.
When i got to talk to him one on one, I learned he HATED America. He told me that he would fight against us. I asked him "But you swore your allegiance to America."
He told me he said the words, but didn't mean ANY of them.

Thats the kind of people we are dealing with. They will lie to your face, and stab you in the back if it suits them.
And i had trusted this man. I wouldn't have known the truth had he not told me.

I already told you Iranians would fight against us if we invaded their country. More power to them. That is their obligation as citizens of Iran. You wouldn't seriously expect a country that is more than 20 times the age of our own to simply lay down and take it up the ass if we rolled across their borders, would you?

If Iran invaded America, I would hope Americans would fight back too.

What's your point?

IAEA obligated to supply nuclear fuel
Tehran Times Political Desk

TEHRAN Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is legally obligated to supply nuclear fuel to its members if requested.

Agencys obligation to supply (member countries with) nuclear fuel is obvious, he told reporters Tuesday during a press conference. However, he added that the IAEA should not allow certain countries to change the legal procedures in regard to Iran.

The remarks by the spokesman came as Iran started nuclear enrichment to 20 percent after the IAEA and the major powers failed to respond to Irans request for nuclear fuel to run its research reactor that produces medical isotopes.

Mehmanparast said the step is in line with Irans peaceful nuclear activities.

The IAEA member states, which have signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, have the right to enrichment and Irans decision to produce 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel falls within this category, he explained.

Asked about the pending proposal for nuclear fuel swap deal between Iran and the major powers, Mehmanparast said whenever the nuclear partners announce their readiness to provide nuclear fuel for the Tehran reactor we can make the nuclear fuel swap operational.

Irans main concern is to obtain nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor, as hospitals and patients are desperately in need of radioisotopes produced in the center, he noted.

The official said the Western political approach towards Irans medical research reactor is annoying, adding that the issue should not be used as a tool to pressure Iran.

On Monday, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, the Iranian envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, formally notified the UN body of Tehrans decision on 20 percent enrichment of its nuclear stock under the supervision of IAEA inspectors.

Earlier, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had ordered the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) to begin the production of higher enriched uranium for the medical reactor.

Iran officially requested the IAEA on June 2, 2009 to supply nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor. Later, Iran put forward the proposal for a simultaneous exchange of fuel in two stages on Irans soil, but Tehran has not received any official response to its logical and technical proposal yet. -

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
