McCarthy on T.J. Lang's best position: "Theres a difference in opinion there. ... I think hes a natural left guard."

But as of today, Lang would be Chad Clifton's backup at LT.

I think Lang has good enough feet to handle any position on the line.. that is the honest truth.

On MM's difference of opinion quote - it sounds like he thinks he's a LG (as he says so) and Ted Thompson thinks he could play OT (as he said so at th combine).

ya if they stick him at LG that means we still need to groom 2 starts for rt and left tackle. I thought lang did a decent job at the tackle position this past year IMO he seems to be a better fit for it then guard (but this is just from watching him in games etc).

What it means is we still don't know who's starting-ready where, yet.

"I would assume the line will look like

Clifton/Spitz/Wells/Sitton/Tauscher"

Right there is The Packers starting lineup barring injury for 2010. Ted Thompson didn't bring back Clifton and Tauscher to back up anybody, Spitz will replace Colledge, Wells and Sitton solidified their positions last year.

T.J. Lang will be a starter in the future, as MM said today, there is a difference in opionon where. Hopefully the starters stay healthy so th coaches can have time to figure out where they want Lang to start.

I see Ted Thompson doing the same this year as he always seems to do, that is grabbing 2 or 3 lineman late in the draft, IMHO he will not go after an O-lineman in the 1st or 2nd rnd.

Yeah. I totally agree with you buckeye. Ted just doesn't seem to want to go after that first day OL. He hasn't ever tried for a replacement for either Clifton nor Tausch. I Dont see him changing that approach this year. I know there will be criticism of him for that but frankly I don't think he minds criticism. Look at the Brett issue

Buckeye i agree with that being the probable starting lineup barring injury. But with Ted's latest article on Lang I wouldn't mind seeing him starting at LG and moving the healthy Spitz back into center (which he already has beaten Wells out of previously). That way we have wells as a backup the 3 middle positions (him moving into center and spitz shifting to what needs to be filled). That gives our first or second round pick to groom for one of the Tackle positions. And in a pinch we could shift Lang out if needed and go back with wells at center.
Also you never know if Breno is finally ready to show some sort of reason why we've given him a roster spot for so long without showing a lick of production.

Check out this article by Tom Silverstein.

A pretty good summary of the current situation on the OL.

Personally, setting the OT discussion aside for a minute, I would not mind at all if Ted Thompson pulled something off like a trade to NE for two of their three 2nd round picks.

I think if Teddy got his hands on three 2nds in this draft he would kick some butt. I could see a Safety, OT, and, ROLB, all in before round three.

It could happen. There will be a lot of good players there between #20 and #32 and if NE see's two there they really like they could go back to back. They have a pot full of picks and they will be wasting picks down the line because no way they can all make the team.

How could they lose? A first and three seconds or two firsts and a second.

Geez, I wish we were in NE's shoes.
