Second-guessing decisions and asking ourselves what if is one of the most fundamental aspects of following sports, both with respect to in-game action, but even more so with respect to personnel moves. Sometimes a decision to trade a player or to not sign a player will be so significant that it can change the course of an organization and lead fans to speculate for years what could have been.

I'd post the majority of the article but there's pictures that are rather integral to not getting completely lost. Go check it out for some, er, interesting analysis.

Interesting, but I don not believe the Pack would have another SB title today. I am 50/50 on whether the team would have even done as well. Moss would have drastically effected the plays and reads on the field and just as easily could have hurt the team more than helped.

What ifs are fun to talk about, but I generally consider them to be a waste of time, since it's 100% conjecture and opinion. We could have won superbowls every year, we could have gone 0-16 every year as a result. We don't know, we'll never know.

All I know is that I didn't want Randay on our team.

I think we would have had a one shot year and had we won the SB, Favre would have retired. There's actually a good shot we would have won the big one in '07. Let's just say 75% chance for argument's sake.

Now, this is the problem. So, we win the SB in '07. Favre retires. That leaves us with Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn who we draft in '08. Brohm would have started in '08 and we would have been horrible. After starting the season 2-6, Flynn would have taken over and we'd probably go 3-5. Then in '09, Flynn would have been our starter and started the season 3-5, then after the 30th sack, he'd get knocked out for the season (assuming Rodgers has more hit points than Flynn) and we'd be stuck with Brohm again, then finish the season 5-11 again.

None of us would be looking forward to the 2010 season. We'd have one Super Bowl win in '07, but a horrible team after that.

Meanwhile, Rodgers would be seen as a fresh young talent and he'd be winning games, throwing for 25+ TDs with a 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio and driving opposing Ds nuts with his mobility.
Ted Thompson would be looking for a QB for his #1 pick in '10 instead of building in other areas. Heck, we might even pick 2 QBs in '10 and let Brohm go.

So, was the SB win in '07 worth it?

Favre would have another Super Bowl as they'd win it right away, but then he'd retire.

Moss would then be a lost case because none of the QB's, assuming Rodgers was gone, would suck. Badly.

We'd still be a 4-3 defense that didn't maximize Charles Woodson's skills.

We wouldn't have Clay Matthews since the Favre pick landed that pick.

Rodgers wouldn't be that great either. Why? Because it's Oakland.

We didn't need Randy Moss. We had Greg Jennings.

I don't remember Rodgers being discussed in those talks.. I remember it being a mid round draft choice.. in the neighborhood that the Pats paid.

I find it interesting that now Rodgers is being thrown into the speculation..

In March 2007, there were strong rumors that the Green Bay Packers were considering trading young backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for disgruntled WR Randy Moss. Rodgers, a former 1st-round draft pick, was stuck backing up quarterback Brett Favre who would seemingly hold that job into the 22nd century. And Moss, a notorious fair-weather player, was playing his way out of what he perceived to be a hopeless situation. Of course, the trade would never go through, and Moss would end up being dealt that April for a 4th-round draft pick to the New England Patriots, where he would go on to break the single season record for TD catches and, together with Tom Brady, lead the Pats to the Super Bowl and a near-perfect 18-1 season.

My bad. I forgot it was Oakland. Yeah, Rodgers would suck. Nothing against Rodgers, ANYONE would suck in Oakland.

I heard the Rodgers for Moss trade rumors so at least the rumors were out there. How much truth there were to those rumors, who knows?

I'm guessing if GB dealt Rodgers for Moss, which by the way as only an internet rumor and I really don't think anything substantial, but if they did, Brady Quinn would've probably been the Packers' first round draft pick that year instead of Justin Harrell.

am i the only one who NEVER heard these rumors? i feel like if it was "strong rumor" as this article says i would have caught wind of it somewhere. the only thing i ever heard regarding randy moss and gb was that we could have had him for a 4th rounder and didn't do it....
