http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/22/darren-mcfadden-could-be-available/

ESPN's Chris Mortensen this morning mentioned Oakland's Darren McFadden as a veteran player that may surprisingly be available during the draft. Mort has close ties to the Arkansas program, so the news carries a lot of weight. And it's surprising.

While McFadden has underperformed, he's shown more promise than other recent Raiders first-round picks.

Pull the trigger, Ted!

With all of these former 1st rounders going for mid round picks lately I wouldn't be upset to grab McFadden for a deal if they could pull it off. The thing is though he seems to have a lot of trouble breaking through tackles which is not something I am sure can be coached out of him. He also has been very injury prone.

Here is why you hestitate on pulling that trigger..

With Bonus he made over 8million last season.. and is scheduled for $5,391,760 this season.. that is a ton of coin for a part time back that can't stay healthy.

Pass.

Ooof. I love McFadden - I wanted them to draft the guy, badly.

I don't think you can really judge him based on what he's done (or more precisely has not done) in Oakland - that place is a mess, and RBs get injured. I don't see an indication that he's fragile, personally.

BUT. Z's right that he would cost a lot, especially when you consider that he'd platoon with Grant. We're better off finding that change of pace guy in the draft, much as it pains me to say that.

I liked his speed, but he seems like a fragile runner. I don't mean injury prone, I mean that one hit he falls down. Poor balance? I don't know much about him, I've only seen a game or two he was playing. He does wear a pretty awesome number though.

Sorry - typed too fast - meant 93z.

Anyway, I haven't seen much of what he's done in Oakland, but @ Alabama the guy ran hard - broke tackles well, and once he got into the secondary that was that. Back then he reminded me of AP with a bit less power, better hands, and a bit more speed. If he can get out of Oakland and into a place that knows how to use his talents, I think he'll be a star.

Hmm. If we end up getting him for a late late round pick, I'm game. I think his speed would provide a good change of pace for our backfield. Provided he restructures his contract.

Agreed on the restructuring. I'd be willing to go as high as 4th round, possibly 3rd.

If he's available for a 3rd round pick, you have to do it. He's a complete back and would prolong Grants career.

He can also catch the ball. And he weighs more than 150lbs.
