Because of the B10 tv network I expected the additions to come from out east as there are so many more potential viewers to draw on.

maybe after locking in football powerhouse Nebraska (and this expansion is all about football since football generates so much more money than basketball does) they will pull in a team or two from out east to pay for the picking up of Nebraska.

That's why the Rutgers talk made a lot of sense when expansion talk started at the end of last season. You bring in the New York market and you are set.

The main con is that this is pretty much the reason why the Big Ten was so adamant against a playoff system at the time. If the format had been changed, there would be almost no point in expanding or for schools to switch conferences. Wetzel explains it better than I ever could-

The Big Ten Network, as much as I love it, is a big factor in all the decisions regarding the conference. Adding markets brings in more money for the conference. Of course, a playoff would bring in even more money, which I believe a portion of the playoff money does get shared across the conference.

As long as it ends with a Big Ten Championship game, I think the pros outweigh the cons.

B10 doesn't need ND anymore. What have they done in the past 10 years? :crybaby:

I agree.. And I hope with all this conference shuffle that's about to happen in the coming months/years that ND gets left in the cold without a conference.. But I also know that the big wigs in the Big10 are still very much interested in ND joining. And I think that firing the first shot with reeling in Nebraska is the beginning of the BigTen's 'assault' on luring ND.

Never will happen. They are a founding member of the BigTen. Not to mention they only have 6 National Championships to back them up. Try again.

It's all about money. Nothing more, nothing less.

One more reason not to watch college football.

Sigh. The older I get, the less professional sports attracts me.

Well, at least there is still the Packers.

Money is always the main factor in everything. If the Packers weren't able to turn a profit, they wouldn't exist. Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota haven't been able to break even over the last few seasons, and have had to use taxpayer money from university budgets.

The only thing is that if it was the ONLY reason, then the Big Ten and Big XII would have okayed a deeper look into a playoff system. A playoff would bring in even more money. It's about money AND being able to compete with the other conferences. The Pac-10 was going to expand whether the Big Ten was or not.

Just because the Packers turn a profit, does not mean they are all about money. There is a such thing as doing what you enjoy and getting compensated for it financially. However, many of us do what we have to in order to get paid.

Someone please explain to me why Nebraska going to the Big 10 would be the end of the Big 12. Would anyone even notice they were gone?

I mean, that would be like Nascar folding because Michael Waltrip moved to the IRL #confused

U. Texas and 5 of its minions would pack up and head to the Pac use to be 10.

Ahhh that makes more sense. I just kept seeing, "If Nebraska leaves, the Big 12 is done!"

That would be like saying, "If the Pittsburgh Pirates left, MLB would cease to exist! Lol.
