Some people live and breath the NFL... How important is the NFL to you?

If you are asking about "The NFL" as opposed to "The Packers", my answer is "not very."

I find as I age, national/internationalpro sports in general matter less to me each year. It's too much business and too much marketing and too much economics driven for me. (Not that I dislike business and marketing and economics -- its a big part of what I do for a living, after all -- but I always liked sport as something "separate' from everyday life.

When I was young, we called it "extracurricular" activity, and that fits for what I want. I want something that I can turn off the real world and immerse myself in for its own sake. And pro sports just don't do that.

I still care about the NFL more than the others. But that's only because I still get that feeling from watching and following the Packers. If the Packers weren't there, I expect I would follow the NFL about as much as I follow the NBA, NHL, MLB, and Divsion I football and basketball (yes, Div I is pro sports, even if/when the athletes don't get paid). Which is to say, not much at all.

If it weren't for the Packers, I might occasionally avoid work by napping in front of the TV on Sunday afternoons. But that's about it.

I live and breathe football in general.. I love the NFL brand of the game however this war waging over millions in their billions is quite honestly tempering my excitement for the league.. and I find myself wandering back to the roots of the game where their is less greed involved in the process.

Albeit the NCAA don't publicly broadcast the Billions they generate because they harbor outdated policies that keep the labor pool working for relative peanuts in the draw.

In the end.. all this nonsense from the two major entities in the NFL labor war may drive me back to the high school game and force me to open myself to coaching... that is if I can find time for such an endeavor.

Rant off.

Yeah.. the NFL is definitely peaking my interest! In the past, I wouldn't say it was of any importance in the past but am finding myself becoming more fascinated...

It's "peaking" your interest? So your interest is about to decline again?

The NFL? Not very.

The Packers? They're my guilty pleasure. I follow the Packers and certain former Packers and that's about it.

A peak necessarily implies a sharp point. That's what the word means. (It's related to the German word punkt, which also means "point.") If his interest is about to plateau, then he just should say so. :P

And one doesn't need to nadir (nice job using that word as a verb, by the way -- I've never seen that done before) following a peak. One could ease down into a smooth valley . . . or even onto a nice long plateau. 😉

Of course, if one does nadir, then one must necessarily come back up again . . .

In other words the correct word was "pique"?

:)

I love people who pay attention to language.

If Rourke weren't so set against us morbidly obese folk, I'd kiss him.

(Well, maybe not. Never mind.)

Now, now, Wade, the only ones I ever criticize are the morbidly obese women. Obesity on a man can be rather . . . charming . . . if he knows how to use it, as witnessed by the number of obese men I know who are total womanizers.
