Exactly what are these guys being paid very good money for? Someone please explain this. Chillar is the better player over Hawk and Brady can't even beat out 7th round picks and free agents.

You know, it's getting to the point where I wouldn't mind seeing Green Bay trade Hawk for what they can get before the trade deadline. He's not going to be kept for $10 million next season and extending him another few years is going to sink a lot more money into a player (and position group), who while solid, hasn't exactly lived up to his draft position.

Don't get me wrong, as he's a good team guy and locker room presense, but you've got his replacement basically chomping at the bit for playing time in Bishop and have quite a bit of money already invested in both Barnett and Chillar for the next couple of seasons.

If we could get a complimentary piece to help this team somewhere for him, I'd be all for pulling the trigger and letting Bishop get his reps in the base defense.

Do people really not understand that they're going to keep so many at every position? and that they're going to keep the best at those positions?

They're being paid because there weren't 4 guys that the Packers had that were better then them . Simple as that...

I saw Poppinga playing some nice snaps against the Eagles. Hawk is mainly there for run stopping out of base which they didn't play base because the Eagles are a pass rushing team...

Because of their depth at LB, the Packers have the luxury of platooning. This is a good thing. If Hawk ends up sitting the bench during several games this season, then maybe they should trade him. But if it's just one or two games, he's worth keeping. I know that he played very few snaps against the Colts a couple years ago, for the same reason. These are extremely pass-happy offenses.

I can't think of anything other than possible potential for Poppinga with special teams.

Hawk, he's on his rookie salary from when he was drafted 5th overall.

I would love to talk about Hawk.. but I think the last three seasons of input is enough upon the topic for me.

Solid reactive linebacker that in most cases has been outplayed or in coverage equaled by a kid from Cali.

There is a locker room dynamic at stake here. Neither one of these guys is earning his paycheck. And don't think for one minute these players don't know each other's salaries. H & P are situational players and their playing time alone does not warrant what they are making.

I don't see Hawk getting on the field a lot this year. Teams are going to attack our secondary instead of our D-line with runs. It's may be a decent idea to try and trade Hawk for an OLB or something if you can find one.

Agreed in principle.. however until they get a CBA in place that has some ability to adjust a players pay according to results.. I don't see this being resolved without cutting them loose.

And Hawk is not terrible.. he is just a steady linebacker that for whatever reason has become a bit passive and reactive.

Poppinga flashes just enough now and then to keep him upon the 53.. but I just don't see a fluid enough player to become more than he is currently.

I wasn't the first to say this, but I think Hawk ... thinks too much. He used to tackle like Clay does currently when Hawk was in college. It was great to see. In the pro's he doesn't do that as consistently.
