I don't know if you all saw this, but the Jets got in trouble recently because some of them made lewd comments when an attractive young female reporter went into their locker room:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Jets-looking-to-address-alleged-harassment-of-fe?urn=nfl-269361

What's not addressed, is because it's not politically correct, is that this may be a sexist double standard.

Imagine you're a male reporter. Imagine you have the assignment to interview a women's volleyball team. Guess what? You WON'T be allowed in their locker room. Period.

I believe in fair. Either allow men in women's locker rooms, eliminate gender locker rooms altogether, or disallow both genders in opposite sex locker rooms.

The 2nd of the 3, I saw in Robocop 1 and was surprised to see it as I thought it was a good idea before I saw that movie. Opposite sex locker rooms I always thought were silly and Puritanical to begin with.

Thoughts?

(I put this in the NFL section because it happened to an NFL team - the Jets).

It's a bit retraded yeah.

The thing is this, if a female reporter goes into a locker room with 53 pro athletes there's gonna be some lewd comments. If a male reporter goes to a locker room with the female volleyball team, there won't be any lewd comments (most likely).

The system they have now has backwards logic. It's like people nowadays are so protective of the woman's body, but no one cares about the male body. Maybe it's because men are more open about their sexuality when with peers, so men aren't offended by female reporters coming to interview them. Even if they're butt naked.

I'm done with double standard talk, I'm too stupid to understand the definition apparently.

Actually in the USA, if a male walks into a woman's locker room, professional or not, he will get arrested.

I think the solution is simple. Eliminate gender locker rooms, period. But of course, that's forward thinking and won't happen any time soon.

coming from a woman's point of view, i find this entire issue to be complete & utter horse shit! you're a reporter, doing a report on football. you go into the locker room, & gasp - are shocked to see naked men?? give me a break!!

dress like a ho get treated like a ho.

sorry i know it's not PC & the fact that i'm a woman probably makes it sound really bad but i'm sick to death of women these days. who the hell decided that boobs need to be on display constantly? i'm sure some of you guys enjoy it but do you really respect a woman who lets it all hang out?
edit: i'm having a bad day - can ya tell? 😞

All I have to say is that the woman shouldn't have been in there. If men aren't allowed in a female locker room, women shouldn't be allowed in a male locker room. Completely unfair, and somewhat sexist.

But it seems like nobody cares what males think nowadays.

I wasn't there so it's tough to say, but there is a line that you can cross. If the Jets crossed a line, then they should be punished for it.

If the extent of the harassment is people whistling at her, then you know whatever. That's just ridiculous. Move on.

Gopackgo hit the nail on the head. Males in America today have NO voice. Like the thread we had awhile back, just look at most TV commercials and you will see what I mean. Men (and boys) are shown to be blithering idiots that have to be SHOWN how to do EVERYTHING by women/girls.
For example, the "invisable cord" for wireless computer hookup. First the wife, then the little daughter have to explain to the STUPID man that he doesn't need a cord, he already HAS one. This crap is in so many commercials it's rediculous.
If a woman wants to go into a MENS locker room, then don't cry if you hear cat calls and so on. They don't belong in a mens locker room in the first place. Anymore then a man has a "right" to report from a woman's locker room.
If they want to talk to the men, wait until they come out of the locker room.

Have you seen her, and the way she dresses? I would have been amazed if there weren't any comments. Whew-ee!

I'm more interested in that the other female media gal that covers the Jets was surprised to hear such things being said/done. She's apparently never had an issue.

Hmmmm
