I'm sure we all remember during the 2010 season we all bemoaned the Packers needed to make a move for a running back. Then Marschawn Lynch was traded for mid-late round picks to the Seahawks many of us fans said "why not us??"

Bills got
2011 fourth-round pick
2012 conditional pick which turned into 5th round pick

Seahawks got
RB Marschawn Lynch

Packers went to rumble on with James Starks paving the way for a Super Bowl run.

This season we've seen the failure of Richard Rodgers to progress (coaches words be damned!) and a potential patch-work fix TE was available for the taking in TE Vernon Davis. Who, was traded to the Broncos.

49ers got
2016 6th round pick
2017 6th round pick

Broncos got
TE Vernon Davis
2016 7th round pick

Similar to James Starks coming off physically unable to perform in Week 11, we have Andrew Quarless coming off injured reserve/designated to return on Week 12.

Of course, this means nothing. The coincidence was mildly amusing to me.

I didn't realize there was some sort of groundswell of support for trading for Vernon Davis. Ruling out the possibility of backdating it whatever years and trading A. J. Hawk for Davis, a big no way to making a trade.

I just recently got to thinking positive about Richard Rodgers, and now people are dissing him? And Quarless I liked better than Rodgers before this preseason. I'd like to see Backman used too - if we got Davis, I bet they'd cut and lose Backman, which would be a damn shame.

And as for the Lynch comparison, running behind our O Line, Lynch would be mediocre or worse.

Not that they have drafted bad, I think they have drafted pretty well. But when risks like this aren't taken, it puts even more pressure on the draft.

The Packers have crap at TE. Quarless and R. Rodgers are nothing more than average #2 TEs. The Broncos went out and signed Owen Daniels, who is better than anyone the Packers currently have as far as a receiving tight end, and now they have Vernon Davis. I like what they've done. Make smart free agency moves and trades in an attempt to address weaknesses in the roster. There's no better time than now to win a Super Bowl. Having a guy like Vernon Davis around would also likely help Richard Rodgers.

The Packers aren't in that place yet, but they're close enough to where if it doesn't work out they're not going to cry about losing a late 6th. Ted Thompson can find 2-3 players a season in UDFA that are worth a 6th round pick, anyway.

Hehe...I remember decrying the Rodgers pick since I thought he was at best 6th round quality.

Davis is a head case, but he's definitely worth a sixth IMO.

Whether the deal the Broncos got was actually available to Green Bay, we'll never know. But if it was, Ted Thompson not making is annoying.

But it wouldn't be surprising. Ted Thompson ain't going to be changing his approach to "getting value at bargain price" in trades any more than he's going to change his approach to free agency. So I can see him saying "we'll do it for a 7th instead of a 6th."

At least we know we didn't even try.

The Randy Moss non-trade is the one that pisses me off to this day.

Not to mention that the Raiders didn't even give the Packers a chance to top the Patriots.

No worries, when Aaron Rodgers is close to 40 and the Packers don't have a potential stud in the wings at QB, they will go into a more urgent mode.
