The risk for trading for Vernon Davis is every bit worth the late 6th round draft pick it would have cost the Packers. That 6th round draft pick will likely be practice squad fodder, anyway. Sometimes one has to take some risks. In the case of the NFL, it's fine to not make any trades like this, but the team damn well better draft better than the Packers have recently. Not that they have drafted bad, I think they have drafted pretty well. But when risks like this aren't taken, it puts even more pressure on the draft.
The Packers have crap at TE. Quarless and R. Rodgers are nothing more than average #2 TEs. The Broncos went out and signed Owen Daniels, who is better than anyone the Packers currently have as far as a receiving tight end, and now they have Vernon Davis. I like what they've done. Make smart free agency moves and trades in an attempt to address weaknesses in the roster. There's no better time than now to win a Super Bowl. Having a guy like Vernon Davis around would also likely help Richard Rodgers.
