I've been wanting Randall to play in the slot. He's a good tackler and has really good short area quickness. I think he could excel there. He's shown a knack for playmaking and being closer to the ball would probably be even better.

Another thing with him, it seemed last week like he was expecting (but not receiving) help over the top. Not sure about today, I'll have to go back and look.

I'm not worried about Randall. HOPEFULLY we'll be getting shields back, and worst case scenario we'll have Goodson to work with after the suspension.

I despise zone defense. It is a rare day when I have seen any Packers team play zone defense properly. They give half hearted, token coverage to the receiver for about 3 yards and without knowing who is going to pick up THEIR man they stop and try to cover a different receiver 15 yards away. If the throw was really going to go to the 2nd man it would be completed long before they could get there.

I have to admit, I have enjoyed watching some of Lovie Smith zone coverage (when it didn't hurt the Packers). But they knew how to run it extremely well for a while there with the Bears... and at times the Vikings have done it well also (but I haven't enjoyed theirs as much).

Yeah the Packers probably don't run zone enough to get all the little details and feels down... Randall was jumping to the second receiver way to early.... I think the announcer got that one right, suggesting you take the deeper guy in your zone, and Randall should have stayed with the clearing guy longer.

I believe Gunter had a GREAT play in zone coverage doing that... he followed a guy going out of the zone and the Lions dumped it underneath to a guy they thought was wide open while Gunter was coming off his man and rushed up and nailed him before he could get going.

Slot is the hardest position on defense to play, and you want a second year player in there. Come on. -_-

The secondary is extremely young, and they faced a stable of WR's good enough to make the ever so consistent Anquan Boldin their third best option. Disrespect Detroit all you want, but the Lions have some of the best route-running WRs in the NFL. Give Stafford time, and he'll find open guys easily, especially against Capers' shitty zones.

Perry showed nice burst today, but the reality is we still lack a pass rush, and really missed Clay out there today.

Our coverage guys need to cover just a little longer and I think you'll see the pass rush improve as a result. Funny how it used to be the other way around.

I know GB has had issues playing zone for a long time. If you don't get the nuances right it can kill you. That's a big part of my frustration. If they don't communicate correctly they are leaving players open all over the place. I can remember in prior years 2 or 3 guys were open on the same play. Why bother even lining up and pretending to play defense if you don't actually cover someone? Many of the long tds they have given up was due to blown coverage while in zone.

As for the dill pickle, I thought that I was the only one thinking that.

You can get burned no matter what coverage you play. The execution and awareness is key especially if you lack speed.
