GREEN BAY - Facing a 4-game suspension to start the season, Packers defensive lineman Mike Neal refuses to complain.

"I'm not mad, I'm not upset, I'm not down, I'm not happy, but I'm just going to go through the process the way it should be," said Neal.

Speaking after the Packers practiced during their second OTA of the offseason, Neal says it was a medicine, not steroids, that caused him to violate the NFL's performance enhancing substance policy. He says the medicine was for attention deficit disorder.

"It was a prescription medication and it was a miscommunication between me and the NFL," said Neal. "It's just as simple as that. If I took some steroids, I'd be defensive, but I didn't take anything that would enhance my performance on Sunday."

Various injuries have kept Neal on the sidelines in the past. Now, he says he's getting closer to full health.

"I'm not going to say I'm 100% and I'm not going to say I'm, like, 80, I'm not going to percent myself," said Neal. "I just feel good."

Neal and the Packers continue their offseason work with their third OTA next week. Practice is open for fans to watch Tuesday, June 5th at 11:30am.

I'm not so cynical that I'll discredit Mike Neal's explanation. I do think if you can't keep your prescriptions within the rules of the NFL, you're pretty stupid. I mean, this is your job after all. I would love to say "if I was an NFL player I would make sure", but really, who knows and maybe he thought he had the NFL's permission?

I don't do medicine, other than the occasional headache aspirin, so it's easy for me to say I'd swear off medication while in the NFL. I'm quicker to pull the trigger on Mike Neal than Justin Harrell, perhaps because of the latter. I don't see Mike Neal contributing anything to this team now or later. Even when he's healthy he shows absolutely nothing to get excited about. Those who say they seen flashes of good are most likely mesmerized by Mike Neal being able to squat press a house!

Ted views all his draft picks as investments, and as a result I don't see any reason why Neal doesn't get one more chance to get 100% healthy (he still isn't yet) and prove he can contribute. If he fails once more, than yeah, it's probably time to cut him loose. In my opinion, it's not a matter of can be be decent depth, but more so can he actually stay healthy enough to play to his ability. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure of that, either.

Seems our team getting anything worthwhile out of this guy would be shocking. I have zero hopes for Neal to contribute. It would be nice if he proves otherwise in GB.

I don't want to hang onto any more of these motherfuckers that keep stringing us out with the assorted crap. GD Justin Harrell and his bullshit, coupled with Mike McCarthy's bullshit (AND IT ALL WAS) really taught me to vote ---

PRODUCE

N O W

...or see ya, mother fucker. This is the NFL a/k/a not for long. Hit the fucking trail.

It doesn't make sense to me that if he took steroids, a widely-known banned substance, that he would be defensive, but since he took medicine to treat a disorder, and presumably did not know it contained a banned substance, he's not going to complain. Seems backwards to me. I'd definitely attempt an appeal to reduce the suspension if I unknowingly consumed a banned substance. Maybe he just wants the extra time to rest, heal, and try to show that he's worth keeping on the roster rather than get pushed into action right away.
