If the Dolphins had completely removed this guy from their board--per my recommendation, they would have had no need to even talk to him.

Dad is a pimp, mom is a twice-convicted crack dealer, and people are wringing their hands over this question? I'm sure this has greatly upset the sensibilities of all involved.

child, please.

If she wasn't flat-backing for dad, what WAS she doing? I'd like to hear that answer.

A) "Slappin' the ho's" for non-payment on the tricks?

B) Keeping the ho's supplied with crack at "company store" prices?

C) For you PC / liberal / hand-wringers-- Ensuring the young ladies of the evening spiritual needs were being satisfied in the midst of the hardships endured by life's circumstances due to the failure of those in authority to adequately assist the downtrodden...

One, I think you've long since decided that the kid is worthless - I don't know that I can fault your reasoning, but I guess I just don't have it in for the kid that badly. Yeah, do ask why he brought a posse to the combine - ask all the questions about HIM you want. Ask them pointedly. Ask him if he thinks he's better than anyone else, and why. That's cool.

But I don't care if his mother was hookin' at the time the question was asked. The point is that it was a shitty thing to ask the kid - period. Even if it was true, I don't care - we're either a decent society in which people treat other people with some basic amount of respect or we aren't. I would like to think we are, or at least we should aspire to be so.

Even if you're right, and the kid's pure bad with no redeeming qualities, I don't like the idea that somehow it's okay for this team official to treat him with that kind of disrespect.

And really, that seems to be the split. Some of us think it's just not cool to ask that question, period - others seem to think that it's cool given who the kid is and what his mom's history is.

...So what he SHOULD have asked Dez is why he brought a fucking posse' to the combine?

"pack93z" wrote:

That absolutely has everything to do with Dez.. and is not not disrespectful to him or his family.

I think it is pretty freaking simple.. judge someone on their merits.. their actions and what they may or may not do going forward. Things they control.

When building a friendship/relationship with someone.. you base your opinion upon that person for what they do, their actions and choices.. not that of their father or mother.

Now.. if Dez was pimping out his mother.. have at him. But the simple fact that her choices have very little to do with Dez himself, it is not like a 10 year old Dez could stop his mother or father from doing what they choose to do.

Ireland is a fully educated NFL executive.. one that should be able to understand where the lines of respect reside.. and if he can't, then he shouldn't be representing the NFL nor the Dolphins.

Is questioning is more in line with an interrogation [strike]and[/strike] than a job interview... personally I think it is becoming an ego trip from some of these fucks.. seriously.. questions like briefs or a thong? Is your momma a Ho?

Come on.. those questions serve little purpose in evaluating a prospect.. other than to flex the muscle of the person asking it.

+1, well said.

I'll add that if expecting a guy like Ireland to act like a friggin' professional is now "PC or liberal", my dear departed, very conservative, very Republican grandfather is now rolling in his grave - where I grew up there wasn't anything liberal about expecting professionals to act like professionals.

Seriously?

Ireland asks the kid what his dad does for a living. The kid says his dad is a pimp. (allegedly)

Ireland asks what his mom does.

The kid says his mom works for his dad.

Now, you can SAY it's wrong to ask the next question, but it sure as hell is logical (the next question) -- and you can assign whatever motives you want to Ireland having asked it--and he did apologize--

I would have asked him the same damn thing. I might have said hooker, instead of prostitute, but I would have asked, and him having done so is no high crime in my book.

(Unlike crack dealing, but why go there)

The thing that has me pissed is the crack-dealing mom saying that she deserves an apology.

No-- She deserves to be in prison, that's what she deserves.

That is along the same lines of Ben's bodyguard having no idea what was happening behind him.. lol.

Ireland manned up and apologized.. Dez accepted it. End of story.

I don't think Dez's mom is entitled to an apology.. her son accepted it already.

My only ax to grind now is the NFL addressing Ireland and that they step in an clean up some of the BS questions that are posed to these kids.

Ireland is no different than a player... his actions should require some statement from the NFL in the very least... not hiding behind the Fins one line statement. The line in the sand should be drawn for the questioning and an understanding with Ireland should be publicly placed.. this is your one and only warning.

But as time progresses.. it is clear that these NFL execs get off on some of these BS questions.. borderline offensive at times. It is not boot camp where they need to be broken down and rebuilt.. they are prospective employees that deserve at least common respect in questions posed to them.

It was NOT a BS question--- This kid (allegedly) has a pimp dad and a (proven) crack-dealing mom. He takes plays off. 1/3 of the personnelmen said they would not even CONSIDER drafting him because of character concerns (JSOnline article April 15/16th) They said he would be tough to sign. They said he has a bad attitude.

He shows up at the combine with a friggin' posse' =====

And "forgets his cleats"....

KNOWING THAT THESE ARE CONCERNS

I'll simply agree to disagree. That version of the story can't even be substantiated, as no Dolphins personnel will cop to it. It's an unattributed 'leak', and to my mind that means it's as likely to be false as it is to be true - combined with the timing of the 'leak', and I'm skeptical, to put it mildly.

Perhaps, if that truly were how the conversation went, the question might be reasonable. I don't believe that's how it went down, though, so there's my take.

As for the mom, sure she should be in jail for dealing. I don't know that anyone here is defending her - I know I'm not. My point isn't that the woman's a saint who doesn't deserve to have her name impugned, it's that you don't ask a kid if his mom is a prostitute during what is, essentially, a job interview. As I said, whether she is or not doesn't matter.

Bottom line: I'm not saying anything about the kid or his mom. He could be the devil, and she could be on her back with a crack pipe in her mouth as I type these words. None of that makes it cool for an NFL team official to ask that question.

Here is the article I was referring to.

Link

I'm glad we didn't draft him.

I don't like him- You got that part right.

Personally, I couldn't care less what his parents do for a living, unless it seems to have "rubbed off on him."

It seems like it has, to me, and if I was charged with the responsibility to my organization to ensure I wasn't getting a worthless piece of shit fuckhead, I'd lean towards being a humongous prick as contrasted to concerning myself with either upsetting the prospect or moralistic fans if it ever got out what I said, but that's just me.

I am assuming very little actually.. numerous kids mention the strange or creepy questions posed to them during the combine interviews.

Most of mention would have little bearing on their worthiness going forward... Briefs or thongs? Seriously argue a single merit for that question.. lol.

Back to Dez.. I am fine with having issues and wanting to clear things up.. no problem. But do it with at least a bit of tact.. you know because the kid is human and well still a kid on most accounts. You assume that the NCAA didn't make an error as well in their suspension or fact finding.. many have posed questions about it.. and the NCAA has offered little in terms of proof.

Don't disagree that you need to find out about the person Dez is.. challenge him on things he has done or controls..

Pry all you want into his actions.. challenge him with questions about him.. dig to find his personality or traits..

And if you can't do that in a professional manner or can't get a comfortable read on him.. simply choose to take his ass off your first round board..

No doubt about it.. you don't want to draft some drop out player in the first round.. so devalue him on your board and make him a later round prospect... where the risk is less..

You can do your job effectively as a GM/Scout/ Personnel director without degrading another person directly... this isn't life or death.. life goes on if you pass upon a player because you were uncomfortable with them as a potential employee.

I wonder how many questions we should allow Ireland types on the morality of taser use. 🙂
