Paul Allen ripping Brett

Something that occurred to me this morning is I wonder if Favre's performance this year will spark a debate about the necessity of training camp, at least for veterans. If he can sign on in August, have a great season, and lead a team to the NFC Championship, what could other players do without the grind of offseason training? It wouldn't surprise me to see vested veterans attempt to negotiate clauses in their contracts that reduce their offseason obligations. Something to watch for.

The way Favre played this year proved to me that this was all premeditated. He never planned to retire, I'm sure the plan to play for the Vikings was struck right after the season ended (maybe before - they've tampered before). There is no way Favre wasn't working out in the offseason and studying the playbook - I don't care how good of an athelete you are or how much of a veteran he is. I just don't believe that a 40 year old man can do minimal off season conditioning and play the way he did this season. The way I see it, Brett has been trying to figure out a way to get to the Vikings since Mike and Ted took over the Packers and he couldn't run the show the way he did with Sherman. I picture him and Deanna having strategy sessions a la Seinfeld and Costanza in the "Roommate Switch".

Sad article for those that care about Favre's last game.

"Yet in other ways it was not routine at all. Vikings' defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier sat down next to Favre and hugged him, speaking into Favre's left ear."

ok what i don't understand is how people are saying Favre lost this game. I guess people just ignore the fact that they were out of fg range. The head coach said it so he must have been told Longwell's range. Favre had a very bad ankle so no way in hell he is going to run.

i heard Jim Johnson and Deon Sanders both say the same thing, they were out of fg range so he had to try something and he was just late with it. Granted the Saints got handed a few gifts in OT from the refs but AP and the other putting the ball on the turf cost them the game.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I agree. Minnesota couldn't hang onto the football. That's why they loss. Favre had his bad moments, but he's also the reason why they got this far. The defense too. The Vikings' defense was dominate for the most part. Their offense put them in a bad spot a lot.

Your right dhazer to a point, this happens when one is given credit for sucess, that one is also the goat when expectations are not met. And this goat was not an isolated incident. The only thing that I saw that was different from previos chokes is Brent didn't smile after throwing the up jump ball. I guess it's not as cool as it used to be to him.

They were on the 38 yard line at the time of the interception. 55 yard FG for Longwell. It's a reach for him to make that distance, but I'm sure it'd been straight on.

I still say, that should have never been a pass. You tell Peterson to cover the ball with both hands, lower your head and run hard straight up the gut to whichever hash Longwell prefers.

Then you let the clock run down, take a time out.

Send Longwell out there to attempt the game winner and I bet he makes it even if they only get one yard.

Like the Packers did in 08 at Minnesota but Crosby missed it and DH and a few others blamed the loss on Rodgers?

Ugh, I was at that game... The Vikings fans in attendance were as classy as always, and so were the staff, who started blaring "Bang the Drum All Day" over the PA the moment that the ball whizzed outside the upright.
