Anyone who thinks the worst heat Wisconsin has to offer is "stifling" clearly hasn't been to Georgia in July, as I was for a few weeks this year (without air conditioning, I might add).

I can only speak for myself on my opinion.. but it is not hating on Harrell.. it is more that other guys are putting out more effort than he. At least in McGinn's opinion...

And color me tired of MM coddling players.. call a spade a spade and if they don't kick it in the ass.. then deal with it swiftly.

This is a team that has Superbowl aspirations.. one in which lack of effort from select players shouldn't be tolerated.

That picture was from last week when he was held out due to heat issues.

Harrell isn't going to be cut until the end of camp at the soonest. Lets see what he does in some live preseason games as he gets some extended reps before we start calling for the axe.

Wade, McGinn didn't base his opinion off of that picture. He didn't even post that pcture with his story. I found that picture somewhere else.

His opinion is based off of what he has seen in camp so far, from the sideline. Of course, you would have known that if you would have actually read the article.

"IronMan" wrote:

I did read the article you linked. And in *it*, McGinn states his conclusions which include the statement that it has been "commonplace". If so, then I expect him to have reported on it before.

But since I don't read most of McGinn's writing (because you have to pay for it), I don't know whether he has been harping on this for some time or not. Which is why I asked what he's (McGinn) been saying before. It's not my responsibility as reader to pay money to check up on him, and I'm not going to do it.

Observation of one practice is not evidence of "commonplace" behavior. It's one practice. If he's dogging it in one practice, that's bad but explainable in lots of ways -- everyone has bad days, IMO. If he's regularly been dogging it, that's another matter entirely.

If McGinn has been reporting on Harrell's bad attitude and body language for some time, that's one thing. If he's generalizing from one practice to a "commonplace" practice, he's being journalistically irresponsible.

If you're a true journalist, you don't make that kind of claim without backing it up, either in the individual article itself (which IMO he categorically did not do here) or in previous articles (which he may or may not have done).

Of course, as NSD will tell us, most so-called journalists today don't bother worrying about any of this, so McGinn would just be illustrating, ahem, the commonplace "journalist" practice if he didn't either.

But it still is irresponsible reporting IMO.

That's what I'm saying about McGinn.

He looked decent during the scrimmage.

"bozz_2006" wrote:

Yeah from what I've read everyone seemed to be surprised by how well Harrell did. Some even said Harrell looked better than all of the D line other than he got tired and wore down faster than others.

Sounds likes he just wasn't in playing/conditioning shape entering training camp.

And that's why he's having more trouble dealing with the heat and getting a lot of reps compared to the others.

Harrell hasn't really had to be in game shape in years. I don't know about anybody else but it doesn't surprise me. If his conditioning is the only problem (and only a couple weeks into training camp - big whoop) he is having then that's awesome because that has to be the easiest thing to improve on (you do it just by showing up).

I want to here it from McCarthy or Trgovac and not some observation by McGinn.

"warhawk" wrote:

Yup. And everything I've read that came from McCarthy or Trgovac, or Capers for that matter, reads much differently than McGinn's take. They all speak of a hardworking player who does everything they ask him to do, and is extremely strong, but has had medical issues. None of them has ever called him lazy.

The negativity from fans and certain reporters towards Harrell just keeps manifesting itself in any form they can fit it into. I don't get it. I think a lot of Packer fans just can't live without a whipping boy to take their frustrations out on. They didn't like the Harrell pick, so they are just going to keep picking at him until he's gone so they can say "Told you so."
