I can see Finley pulling a holdout assuming A) he puts up similar stats to the 2nd part of last year, 😎 We have a season next year.

Just seems like the type of guy to do so. All the talent in the world but not so sure about the head on his shoulders.

But concerning the comments, Chewy hasn't been relevant in anyform of football for over 10 years, I guess he's got to make his mark somehow. It's kind of like the pot calling the kettle black though, a guy that got busted with a minor calling someone ELSE a moron?

I am on Finley's side here. Chmura had no business calling him a moron. He could have said it more nicely. For instance: He's a great player, but he shouldn't be saying thins like that in front of a national audience." Never should have said moron.

However, this is a 'lets talk GBP' thread, so I'm not here to talk about that. Anybody who thinks that confidence isthe end all be all, take a look at TO or Chad Ochofucko. And now those two are playing together. What a circus. Confidence can be a silent strength as well. KNOWING that you and your team will succeed is different than yelling it out to everybody that can hear. Secondly, Chmura needs to keep his damn mouth shut. What does he think is going to happen when he goes on the radio and says that the new TE is a moron? Again, SILENTLY thinking that would be a lot better than debuting it to the public. They both are amazing athletes and have/will continue to do great things for the Packers, but I think that they are both in the wrong here, and they should lay off the testosterone energy drinks.

Conviction is not subject to the whim of moral indignation.

"Nonstopdrivel" wrote:

But association is.

I agree with almost everything you said in this post, Rourke. (I fear liberals as much as I fear conservatives, but that's another debate for another day.)

However, while moral indignation should not decide criminal conviction, it can -- and arguably should -- shape our associations. If we believe person X is a scumbag, should we associate with that person? Perhaps not. Should we give less credence to said scumbag's moral judgments or personal opinions? Perhaps.

Do I think Chmura a scumbag because of his spending time in a hottub with underage girls. No. Do I think his doing so exhibited very bad judgment? Certainly. If I had a teenage girl, would I invite that Mark Chmura to a party for said girl? No.

Do I think he was guilty of the legal charges against him? I defer to the jury. I didn't have the facts. What pieces of the story I had came through journalistic reports and rumor and press releases. On the legal question, I consider all of those worse than a courtroom constrained by the rules of evidence and criminal procedure. The law is an ass, but deciding legal culpability via the court of public opinion and today's non-journalism is far worse.

Do I care what Mark Chmura says about anything? No. But not because of what he did or did not do on the night people always talk about. Combined with his acquittal, I'm tempted to consider it a case of bad judgment by someone under 30.

As someone who has been guilty of exceedingly bad judgment more than once, I'm hardly in a position to judge others in that respect. (Though my own bad judgments with teenage girls happened when I was a teenager, I've had no shortage of other kinds of bad judgments, including ones with possible moral impliations, as an adult.)

Because Chmura to me seems to fit the stereotrype of an ex-jock politician pretty well. Because he strikes me as a hack. I don't really consider him particularly immoral (except insofar as I consider all politicians immoral), but I also see no reason to pay attention to what he says.

Seriously, why should anyone care what Mark Chmura says about anything other than, perhaps, how to play TE? What has he done that gives him credibility to anyone who thinks?

IMO Chmura has the importance of Paris Hilton. Or Susan Sarandon.

Which is to say, not much.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Split off the Chmura vs Finley thread.. to carry the discussion out further.

Yes he was acquitted on the charges... more or less because of the lack of physical evidence.. but several items remain..

1) He was playing drinking games at 2am with a drinking buddy and a bunch of teens. Admitted fact by Mark.

2) He was in a hot tub with teenagers in the early am with nothing more then underwear worn by all parties. Admitted in court by Mark.

3) He was in a downstairs bathroom alone with a 17 year old girl.. testified by his drinking buddy, Mark and the accuser.

4) The events in the bathroom were completely he vs she in word.. as no DNA evidence was collected as well as no physical evidence. This because the emphasis of the defense.. and it prevailed. Hence why no statutory rage charges were brought.. no evidence.

5) There was talk of a previous babysitter becoming impregnated by Mark.. however the babysitter declined to name the father and brought no charges.

6) Mark refused to go to the White House because of the Clinton affair.. based on morality issue with Clinton directly.

Sum all parts together.. and it paints a ugly picture of Chmura and whether or not acquitted there are still some admitted actions unbecoming of a responsible moral adult.

beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔

Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : found bad sql in database, maybe site faster now?
dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Hey i didn't know we could trade picks in fantasy
