Imagine you're a male reporter. Imagine you have the assignment to interview a women's volleyball team. Guess what? You WON'T be allowed in their locker room. Period.

Where did you hear that, Zombie? Because here's an article by Ann Killion that says otherwise. I'll quote the part of it that's about this issue, then I'll provide the link to the entire article:

Men are, indeed, allowed in women's locker rooms. Driving into work on Monday I heard a nationally syndicated radio commentator lamenting the fact that he couldn't go in women's locker rooms. Apparently he's never attempted to cover women's sports -- sadly, not too surprising. But as this particular radio talker works for a network that covers both the WNBA and the women's NCAA basketball tournament -- and also employs several high profile women sports reporters -- you'd think he might have checked his facts.

The WNBA -- the playoffs are going on right now -- has the same rules as the NBA. Open locker rooms at designated times. In the NCAA tournament, the same rules govern both men and women's locker rooms -- they're both open at specific times. During the regular season, NCAA institutions can make their own rules about locker room availability, but during the tournament the NCAA has a uniform policy. When Stanford played UConn in last April's championship, if you wanted to see how devastated Jayne Appel was after her terrible shooting night, you needed to be in the locker room. I was there. So were my male colleagues.

If that's so, then fine. How come I don't believe it though? Possibly because I also read Pack's article he posted and she said "she believes" that men go into women's locker room. What does that mean? She's not sure? She's never seen one?

I'm still skeptical.

And for the record, I said ideally, there wouldn't be gender locker rooms, period. There should just be a locker room. The whole idea of gender locker rooms is outdated and Puritanical.

Here's what Lori Nickel wrote: "I believe men should go in to womens locker rooms, for the WNBA, Olympics, whatever." This is a very different statement than the one you attributed to her above, which is that she believes that men go into women's locker rooms. She used the word "should." She was just clarifying that she does not believe there should be a double standard.

So apparently the thread title and the initial post are based on false information. It's not enough that you personally don't believe that men are allowed into women's locker rooms. You need to provide some proof to back up your statement. For starters, I'd still be interested to hear where you got the information.

Greg - 2nd hand, which would be dismissible in court anyways. I heard it from a player who thought male reporters couldn't go into women's locker rooms.

I agree with Ms. Nickel. Very much against double standards, period. I've said for decades now that the double standard of females having to downplay their sexuality while men could boast theirs was stupid, for example. So this isn't a "woe is me because I'm a male" gripe.

I thought the article by Lori Nickel was pretty much spot-on, especially the comments from Jesse Garcia: It's wrong for the guys to be making catcalls, but female reporters should be smart about what they choose to wear. I think the whole thing will blow over pretty quickly.

Your mentioning "Robocop" made me think of another Paul Verhoven movie, "Starship Troopers," where there were unisex locker rooms. He must've liked that idea. I don't think that would work because most people would be very uncomfortable with it.

Most people will be uncomfortable with it because people don't like change. When the next generation is used to it (as it will be all they know), it will be a non-issue.

I say get it done with now and get it over with.

And yes, I forgot that Starship Troopers had that too.

Do people really want equality of the sexes or is it just smoke?

Lori Nickel Packer insider talks about it

According to her the lady didnt complain it was SOMEONE else that complained

But of course. That happens all the time in the army too. Sexual harassment complaints are way out of line these days. It should be illegal to file a complaint against someone before one has confronted that person with a request to cease the behavior. But it isn't. Nowadays one can file a complaint over a conversation one simply overheard and to which one was not even a party! It's absurd.

I was surprised that the lady didnt do the complaining and its being talked about like she complained

The whole "she was asking for it because she was wearing X and Y" stuff is just nonsense. Pure and utter garbage. In what other context is it permissible to speak to women who dress provocatively in a lewd manner? Somehow, because she enters the "players' domain" it becomes okay for the catcalls and "oops, I bumped into you ma'am" to happen? Give me a break.
