Lord F A V R E got a LOT of wiggle-room from the fan-base because of that drought. That is SO FORGOTTEN/ NEVER KNOWN amongst the internet generation, imo

What wiggle room are you wanting? The guy had one great year and the rest were nothing to write home to mom about.

I find statements like this to rapidly deteriorate the credibility I feel you have established.

edit: sorry if my own statement must necessarily be read in a Yoda voice.

Adjusting the Passer Rating for the years they played in, Rodgers, Starr and Herber are all above Favre.

As for Brett he won the fans over because he played like his hair was on fire. He was running all over the place busting his gut (on gameday) to win. I don't think very many people knew he was putting forth less effort the rest of the week.

Herber's career stats:
career passer rating: 50.1
career TDs/INTs: 81/106
completion %: 40.9
career average passing yards/g: 62.3
careeer passing yards: 8,041

Why even go through the trouble of trying to compare the two? To say they played in different eras doesn't go nearly far enough.

You also have to understand that a lot of teams played the old Knute Rockne box formation offense from Notre Dame still. Herber and Cecil Isbel both threw passes out of the backfield.

To compare the eras is ridiculous. But Herber was farther above average than Favre was. He was more innovative and contributed more to the team. They also won 3 consecutive championships.

I am not comparing how good they were or if they had the same skill set or anything. The game is a completely different game now. So the only real comparison you can do is how much better than his contemporaries he was. Or championships. Either way, Herber is better than Favre. Herber even had an extremely long career for a QB in the 30s and 40s when most injuries were career threatening and they didn't have facemasks. Much tougher to stay in than todays NFL.

This is not a whim. It is thoroughly researched.

The fact that people want to forget or deny a good portion of the 90+ years of Packer Glory so they can puff up a guy who ratted out the team and stuck it to them is fairly sad to me.

This team invented the Dynasty and they did it twice. They had 2 different decades where they totally dominated the NFL. The are the only team with a 3peat and they did that twice. All before Favre came along. The team reached extreme heights back in those days. Much higher than Favre was able to reach. Favre was exciting. But I don't say he was excellent. He was way to flawed and failed way too many times.

To Favre coming in second was on top. For Vince Lombardi, that was for losers. Winning wasn't the only thing for Brett, it was having fun. When it wasn't fun, he didn't do it. Too much hard work is not fun. Preparation and study is not fun. Playing hard was fun, and it showed. But playing hard isn't enough if you don't play smart, well trained and well prepared.

You know what average was back in 1940?

Herber lead the league in a lot of those statistics -- to you, a sign of his greatness over Favre. I say the two simply can't be compared as quarterbacks. For instance, Herber lead the league in completions per game (among other things) in 1936, with just under 4 completions per game [average].

That's not a typo -- just under 4 completions per game.
