1) Although a great group of guys, this is a very abrasive and sarcastic board. It just is. You have to expect it and deal with it, or you won't like it here at all. We are always here for each other when the shit hits the fan, but we are not a nice group of people by any stretch of the imagination.

I think the amount of time some of the core members have been around lead to the imagine that it is a sarcastic board overall... when in reality it is the core group that is generally sarcastic and abrasive with one another. Most of the time with a touch of humor included.. sometimes the humor may miss the mark a bit and come off as more abrasive than intended.

This is where a rapport is built and for the most part you can read another. It is when newer member join in and they get caught in some of the nuances of the core group that misunderstandings take place.

But that is not exclusive to this board.. or even this medium. That is more a product of human nature and societal workings.

Personally.. that is why I enjoyed the hazing experience in college. There was no illusions that a pledge was going to experience copious amounts of pain and anguish in becoming part of the frat. The expectations were built going in.. where as in the rest of the culture it always appears to be a game of cat and mouse while gaining acceptance.

These are just a few hints to help you integrate here. You're going to have to develop a slightly thicker skin if you want to get along here. Otherwise you probably won't like many of us, and you'll hate our resident peanut gallery of assholes, including dakotaT, nerdmann, and myself.

edit: just saw the other thread in random babble. I'd recommend moving all responses to this post to that thread 🙂

so I won't be accused of derailing a thread once again I am putting my reply in this thread.

If it is noticeable to newcomers we must have slide a bit as we have grown more accustomed to one another. Now that I think about it, knowing his history and where he s coming from, I probably would tolerate negative comments made by Dakota more so than someone who just signed up last week.

Hi didn't know this thread existed until now. Basically what I got from this thread is that we're all assholes (seems accurate) and you're going to have to get used it because we aren't changing. But most importantly, judging by zero's posts hes finally got the multiquote button working properly! hell ya, now i need to go searching for a reason to use it.

edit: false alarm. multiquote still broken :<

To be completely serious for a bit, this thread itself illustrates how different it is from most internet boards of my experience.

Most boards treat newbies one of two ways:

Way #1: Call this the "shut the eff up, newbie" approach. Don't speak unless you're spoken to. Don't speak until you know how everyone hear rolls and stay shut up until you speak like the rest of us. Learn how to conform, or we don't want you.

Way #2: Call this "say what you want but you're a newbie, and I and my guys, we like us and your job is to kiss our butts" approach. If you haven't contributed X times (X →∞), we really aren't going to pay attention. We're the cool clique. If you aren't our kind of cool, you're not worth our time.

This place does neither. Oh, sure, people here will nudge you to listen for awhile (see NSD, above), to not judge us too quick. But only while they're paying serious attention to you. People read *and* contribute to the "new members" threads. Yes, we know topic X has been treated before -- topic X gets treated on pretty much every board on the Packers, after all -- but we like talking about topic X again. Person Y might hate topic X, but in general the board has lots of people who aren't at all tired of topic X. And if topic X becomes too dominant, Kevin is real good about knowing when to split it off into a sub-forum (see,e.g Brett Favre).

And while we are all Packers fans (well, except for vikesrule, Formo, and polargrizz), we're also people who have and like to share their other interests. We don't just hang out with each other for 3 hours each fall weekend; we like to hang out together and talk about other things.

If someone hangs out here much, you realize that PH is an amazingly diverse place -- and not just because we have a couple VIkings fans and a Bear fan here. But we're not only diverse, but we actually enjoy each other's differences. Rarely do people take themselves too seriously; but almost always people take each other more than seriously enough.

It may be online, but PackersHome isn't a "virtual" community.

It's real.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Just like in "the real world", there are different personalities here.
And as long as we respect each other, to me at least, it's all good![grin1]

Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round

Martha Careful (2-Aug) : Congratulations Sterling Sharpe. He was terrific and I loved watching him play.
beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I would imagine Dallas will resolve this issue with a truckload of money
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : Micah pulling a Myles with trade request
beast (1-Aug) : Packers should make some cheese forks
Mucky Tundra (31-Jul) : GRAB THE PITCHFORKS~
Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : CUT HIM
Mucky Tundra (31-Jul) : Socieltal collapse imminent
Mucky Tundra (31-Jul) : The West has fallen
Mucky Tundra (31-Jul) : After starting off camp with 25 straight made field goals, Brandon McManus has missed one
Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : But it should be stable
Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : It's probably gonna be slower.
Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : We're gonna just full go on to the new host.
Zero2Cool (31-Jul) : What crap. Site issues galore
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : if PH dies, there is packerpeople com available
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : database is on new host, eventually website will follow
Mucky Tundra (30-Jul) : Zero, regarding Ewers, you are correct.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Sadly, this might be our life for awhile. I could put it on another host, but seems it was slower, although more stable
beast (30-Jul) : How long will it be down?
beast (30-Jul) : RIP site 😭
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site will die, I have to restart it.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Quinn stinks. Lot of underthrows. (my guess)
beast (30-Jul) : How did Quinn Ewers effect where Golden was drafted?
dfosterf (30-Jul) : All I've experienced was late at night or early morning. I just figured you were doing something in the background
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site sure seems to be down more than up
