Personally, I would rather see Gurley as a 6th WR and keep one less TE this year. I mean seriously are they going to break out the 5 TE set? [grin1] Both would be mostly special teams players, it would be good to have Gurley if for nothing other than his tendency to block kicks.

Or Gurley over Driver, I love Driver and he can still probably play, but as a #5 WR you're generally looking for a developmental player that has a role on special teams. James Jones was in 2011 and will be in 2012 a more productive player than Donald Driver(if we ignore that playoff game....).

I think Ted Thompson would easily trade James Jones if there was value in the trade, but it would have to be a fairly high pick as the Packers seem pretty high on him, and again, as the open market showed, not very many teams are interested in James Jones. So its just unrealistic to expect a trade to happen there.
Ted Thompson doesn't trade guys away simply because he has too many good players at position X.

Maybe he's worth a 5th round pick? Really, if you're going to keep going on about how much trade value he has, but not even tell us what you think he's worth in a trade, and can't give any examples of similar players being traded and what they were traded for.... I'll stick to my opinion that a #3-4 WR that didn't get much interest in free agency isn't a hot commodity on the trade market. Certainly if other teams viewed him as a #1/2 WR, someone would have paid him 4-5 million a season, drops and all.

Just look at Santonio Holmes a first round pick who has experience as a starter, has had good production and like James Jones, has a tendency to drop easy TDs. What did the Steelers get for him? A 5th round pick. You might say "oh well Holmes had to sit out a 4 game suspension so they got him cheap" and you'd be correct, except for the fact that Holmes has the sort of talent(or atleast the jets think so) to garner him a $45m contract, while James Jones is currently playing out a $9m contract.

So if Santonio-freaking-holmes can get a $45m contract, and James Jones has to sign a 9m contract because he has so little FA interest, again what makes you think he has a high trade value? Maybe some sort of NFL-wide James Jones hating conspiracy?

Hey wpr & zombie, just making light of the situation. No worries. No pouting. I stand behind my ideas. And if I make a mistake, I'll always admit it and try to make it right - like my great Reed idea in the Collins thread. Holy crap! That was bad...

Thinking Gurley is ready to advance onto the 53 man roster. Management may have already made a decision on this, or they wouldn't have tried so hard to keep him. I would rather try to get something for Jones, and keep a restructured DD around. To me, that seems like a no brainer, but will probably go the other way, with DD's release.

As for the rest of your post, man, it was just an idea. Within the first 4 posts in this thread I give a decent enough idea of what I think he is worth. If you don't agree, fine. I WOULD PUT HIM IN THE R2 RANGE. Why even bring up the ass clown Jets? They are stupid. So is Buffalo for ponying up $36.25M over 5 yrs for Steve Johnson, a guy who had 7 TDs last year, just like James Jones. Both Holmes and Johnson are head cases. jones is not.

Jones is young, experienced, and has far more upside than any of those 4 of Bolden, Moss, Marshall or Williams. How do you determine what that value would be, with certainty? I know for sure it is more than the R5 you propose.

"Wide Receiver Trade Candidates

1. James Jones, Packers

Overview: Essentially black-balled on the free agent market after two unforgettable playoff drops, Jones settled for a three-year, $9.4 million contract to stay in Green Bay last July. The deal was incredibly affordable for a durable, 27-year-old playmaking wide receiver. While drops are an ongoing issue, Jones has averaged 14.5 yards per career reception and scored 17 touchdowns over the past three seasons despite making just six starts. Jones, who packs 208 pounds onto his 6-foot-1 frame, is a physical possession receiver willing to make tough grabs in traffic. His bread and butter is run-after-catch. Jones is a backup in Green Bay, and 2011 second-round pick Randall Cobb will have a bigger role on offense in 2012. While staying with the Pack is Jones' most likely scenario, he could be an interesting trade target for receiver-needy clubs during training camp. His salary is a reasonable $2.3 million, and Jones could start for at least ten teams.

Prediction: Stays with Packers. "

earthquake, how many starting WRs are "worth a 5th round pick?"

There. I'm done talking about Jones. Forever. I don't even want to trade him anymore...[grin1]

The only way I could see us drafting a WR is if we trade one of ours, and then we really don't need one. The most likely scenerio is if one was waaaaaaaayyy to good to pass up. Like Broyles with a 7th. We could probably store him on IR for a year with his injury!!!

R1 of the draft starts two weeks from tomorrow (4/26). Rs 2-3 on Friday, and 4-7 on Saturday. I can't wait to see what Ted does. I don't care much how he does it, as long as he gives us a serious pass rush. Trades or no trades.

Agree, that's the first, second, and third prority!!!. If he can do that we should be in good shape for next year with good health. Anything more is frosting on the cake.

Edit: Play2 regards passrush

he he. I totally know what you mean about 2005. However, we are insanely deep - now. Not so sure I want to give up on the DD either. He could restructure to a more cap friendly figure to stay on. Dude can still bring it.

Zero2Cool (4h) : Packers LT Jordan Morgan did not allow a single pressure across 23 pass-blocking snaps vs. Jets last night, per PFF
Mucky Tundra (8h) : With buckeye and the reasonable couple, we're currently sitting at 10
buckeyepackfan (9h) : Just posted to re-up on our FFL.
Zero2Cool (15h) : If healthy after, then thats all I care. Well, no drops would be nice
wpr (16h) : I made it through the 1st Q.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Just gotta figure out how.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Could have been a worse start, so there is that.
beast (10-Aug) : Yeah, someone tell the Packers football season has started, seems like they weren't ready for it
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : Sooooooo many penalties
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : It may only be preseason, but this game is a trip to the dentist
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers do bad -- FREAK OUT!!!!!!
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers do good -- eh only preseason
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Well that half was fun
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Great, zayne is down

Mucky Tundra (9-Aug) : THE GREEN BAY PACKERS ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL TONIGHT!!!!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here
dfosterf (7-Aug) : to herd cats or goldfish without a bowl. They reminded me of the annual assembly of our fantasy league
dfosterf (7-Aug) : out on a field trip, outfitting them with little yellow smocks. Most of the little folk were well behaved, but several were like trying
dfosterf (7-Aug) : Yesterday my wife and I spent the afternoon on the waterfront here in Alexandria, Va. A daycare company took about 15 three/four year olds
wpr (7-Aug) : seems faster. yay
dfosterf (7-Aug) : Wife of reason posted on the in/out thread on fleaflicker that both she and vor are in
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : This page was generated in 0.135 seconds.
Mucky Tundra (7-Aug) : Tbh, I can never tell the difference in speed unless it's completely shitting the bed
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Sure does feel like site is more snappy
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : found bad sql in database, maybe site faster now?
dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
