"Ted (Thompson) would not want to pay a 6 feet tall defensive tackle $9 million a year," an executive in personnel for an NFL team said. "He's not getting that. He'll probably let him go."

Interesting that someone thinks he won't pay considering Raji is on a one year deal and likely done after this one with us for good and Guion is JAG, and Datone is close to busting. I shudder to think that he wouldn't pay him.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Not re-sign your young leader on the defensive line. Yea, that does not compute with me.

Of anyone on the D-line, Daniels is the least likely to be allowed to walk.

Why would you use a 4th round pick on a guy that if produces well enough to merit a $9 million salary that you wouldn't re-sign him? Do we have Khyri Thorton ready to steamroll the league or something?

Mike Daniels isn't going to get $9 million a year anyway. It'll be around $6 million and $8 million a year on average. You're looking at a 4 year deal running around $25 million to $32 million with anywhere between 40% and 60% guaranteed.

He could Jennings himself right out of here. It happens. Ted does not always pay his guys. Jennings is one...EDS is another...Tramon another...Davon house another...James Jones...Scott Wells...it goes on and on. Not sure why it's such an automatic that people think he's staying? I don't. He should stay because we have a horrible line with him but too much is too much.

Scott Wells wasn't a Ted Thompson guy. And was not worth re-signing either.
Davon House won the freaking lottery.
Tramon Williams wrong side of 30, time to move on.
Evan Smith was overpaid.
Greg Jennings was brainwashed. Got a ring, wanted to cash in.
James Jones wanted to be a starter so he left for that opportunity and more money.

Again, the Packers give second contracts often (rookie being first), but the third contract is rare and fourth contract just doesn't happen. This is part of the draft and develop process.

Id be surprised if they don't work something out. Daniels has been our best player on defense and has gotten better and better every year.

With defensive lineman Mike Daniels heading into a contract year, the Packers identified the fourth-year defender as a player they wanted to lock up to a new deal this offseason. However, with the regular season just two weeks away, Daniels and the Packers are "far apart' on extension negotiations, according to Bob McGinn of the [...]

DAMNIT wrong thread.

Oh well Mike should tell his agent to shelve discussions at the end of training camp, then play his ass off in his contract year.
