So the Rams represented the coaching tree we went with, the Shanahan Tree. LeFleur is a McShay guy. He came up under this group and shares much of their philosophy.

Meanwhile, on the other side is Josh McDaniel. The OTHER guy largely rumored to be of interest to the Packers. In fact, going in, he was a favorite for the position, whereas LeFleur was kind of an after thought.

If the Rams win, that MIGHT tend to indicate that Murphy and the boys made the right decision to go with LeFleur. If the Patriots win, that MIGHT be construed to suggest that the way the Patriots do their thing is the way to win championships.

It doesn't really mean much either way, but it's just a small sub plot, from a Packers standpoint.

Also the sub plot would imply that Belichick's coaches would be successful away from Belichick, which for the most part hasn't been true at all.

Eh, your premise doesn't hold up, Nerd. The only thing we can really take from the Super Bowl in terms of Packers sub-plots is differences in offensive philosophies. Perhaps there can be some insight there, but even that's a stretch.

But with that, I still wish the Packers gave McDaniels a shot. I think he would have been as good as LaFleur, and at least in terms of Aaron Rodgers, even better. The Patriots have been almost masterful in the playoffs, yet again. It would have been fun to see McDaniels with Rodgers. Perhaps LaFleur surprises, and hopefully he runs a better overall team, but I don't think he will beat what a McDaniels and Rodgers offense would have done.

Just getting to the SB is a major accomplishment for any team. The Shanahan/McVay Offensive philosophy has already proven itself. Weather the Rams win or not in SB LIII, GB will enter the 2019 Season with a fresh, new look offense. The GM and the HC will need to work together to hire players that work best with that new system. In addition, the Defense will HAVE TO get better again this year. I was pleased with the better defense play last season, but we all know that will need to improve even more to get GB back to another SB.

IMO can be inaccurate to draw macro trends from micro events.

It might be argued that the lessons learned here are by who is participating vs. the outcome. Some of the conclusions which can be drawn:

Coaching Matters - new ideas can be very powerful...and so can stability with a willingness to adapt. The best is both, a coaching staff that adapts, but keeps to sound fundamentals

Having an attack that is balanced and flexible is key, i.e. the ability and willingness to run the ball ad nauseam if necessary is huge

Having a solid offensive line enables the previous point

the ability to win a game with your defense (or at least keep it close) when things aren't clicking on offense.

If you dont make stupid plays (like on special teams), and take stupid penalties (both teams in the top 10 of least penalized), you generally can stay in games.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔

dfosterf (7-Aug) : Yesterday my wife and I spent the afternoon on the waterfront here in Alexandria, Va. A daycare company took about 15 three/four year olds
wpr (7-Aug) : seems faster. yay

Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : found bad sql in database, maybe site faster now?
dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round
