Detroit takes Matt Stafford QB at 1. He is 5 on the big board.

Rams take Jason Smith OT at 2. He is 2 on the big board.

Chiefs take Aaron Curry ILB at 3. He is 1 on the big board.

Seahawks pull the trigger and take Mark Sanchez QB at 4. He is 7 on the big board.

Browns take Michael Crabtree WR at 5. He is 3 on the big board.

Bengals take Eugene Monroe OT at 6. He is 4 on the big board.

Gets dicey here, as Howard Hughes/Al Davis is running the show. I'm calling it Jeremy Maclin WR at 7. He is 10 on the big board.

Jacksonville Jaguars are either taking Vontae Davis or Malcom Jenkins here. In a coin flip, it's Malcolm Jenkins CB at 8. He is 8 on the big board.

I am putting these in order of their "Big Board" number. I am using draftek's consensus BB, btw.

LINK

Brian Orakpo (Made the gauntlet in this scenario) DE/OLB 6 on the BB

BJ Raji DT Projected to NT for us 9 on the BB

Everette Brown DE 11 on the BB

Andre Smith OT 12 on the BB

Michael Oher (pronounced "oar" , btw) OT 14 on the BB

Tyson Jackson DE 15 on the BB

I have heard him championed here, so I'm throwing him in also...Aaron Maybin DE/OLB 26 on the BB

I'm sticking with Oher in this scenario. Orakpo is extremely tempting, but I am thinking down the road in this draft. Raji scares me, and Smith scares me more. I feel good about Oher, all things considered.

Please pick and say why, or tell me what is nuts in my mini-mock, or whatever comes to mind. If you wish to add other options, please go to the link and tell us where he is on the Big board I have listed.

I found your Jaguars pick pretty interesting. I haven't seen Jenkins going higher than 9 since his dissapointing 40 time, although a team obviously might look to his college career. Davis, I'm pretty sure will not go at 8. He would be a big reach anyway, and with his character problem, I really doubt it. I know I'd be pissed as a Jags fan if they didn't go with Crabtree if he's there.

Anyway, I'd go with Raji or Smith

Smith might be slightly out of shape, but he really just looks like a great NFL tackle if you watch him play. If he falls to 9, his problems will be a blessing in disguise for us and we should get him. If he's gone, I'm fine with Oher. In your scenario, Smith all the way.

Raji is just the prototypical NT and they're hard to find. Ngata was a first round pick, Wilfork was a first round pick, Casey Hampton was a first round pick. Not saying you have to get one of these guys in the first round, but they are pretty darn handy to build your defense around. And I don't have alot of trust in Pickett.

I still hope for Sanchez to drop to us so we could entertain trade talks, but I've wanted OT since the season ended but I'm not as sold on Oher over Smith as you are. I agree with BJ Raji though.

I don't want to any of the tweener DE/OLB's in the first round. Those guys are plentiful in every draft. We don't get a top 10 pick every year, so we might as well take a blue chip left tackle with the opportunity.

I want Raji with our pick... For our outside rushers to get any pressure, they are gonna need a guy collapsing the pocket. I dont see Pickett as a guy getting a consistent push up the middle.

This is slightly nuanced, but I'm sure in travels on this forum you have come across my multiple rants, complaints, threats, freak-outs, etc. regarding Pickett and the NT position in this draft. None of that has gone away, and I live in fear of the lack of potential solutions.

If Ted were to select Raji, I merely shift all of my irrational fears to the OT position. Here is the nuanced part...I aspire to have the Raji I need him to be. He could easily be the real deal, as in the Senior Bowl practice week Raji, or he could be the pretender NT, as in the Raji when the Senior Bowl game was actually played. I use that as an example, because most of us were really paying attention to it.

This discussion is no good without bringing in that plan B nose tackle, which is Brace. Now, you can argue that Brace got overlooked as far as Rd 1 (which he JUST MIGHT go in) because Raji was so awesome, or you could argue that Raji was so awesome because Brace was there anchoring, or you COULD argue (I'm gonna go behind door number 3, here) that they are BOTH probably quite a bit overrated on an individual basis because of the excellent synergy they brought to one another on the same defensive line.

If Ted turns in a Raji card, I am certainly not going to freak out in nearly the same manner that I absolutely plan to if it's a Crabtree card. I will just hope (and expect) Ted to be righter than me about Raji.

I don't want crabs when the 9th pick rolls around, because that's an itch that Ted would almost certainly be compelled to scratch...witness the strong opinion of some extremely knowledgeable posters herein for confirmation of that concept, however friggin' nuts I might think they are.

I'm going to send Dfoster a webcam so he can stream his reaction to the #9 pick lol. See if it will be any better than the guys and the Harrell pick 😛 We want to draft Crabs and hell even find a way and trade for Peppers so we have to Mods freaking out lol.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

If you decide to send that webcam, make sure it's a cheap one. No warranty expressed or implied on it's continued existence beyond the 9th pick. :buzzsaw:

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.

dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
