If you are playing a 3-4 defense with lots of blitzing, you almost have to have zone coverage. If you play strictly man to man converage, there they will be able to pick a defense apart when you have extra people blitzing.

I remember that Dallas game two years ago where Terrell Owens had a big day and a lot of people blamed Harris, but on several of those plays, Owens ran right out of Harris's zone and nobody picked him up. It was a horrible game plan. But I think that's where the "Harris can't play zone" thing got started.

I also remember the first pass tossed to Owens being torn out of his hands by Harris, and Harris clearly getting two feet down before going out of bounds. I don't THINK we challenged it (if we did we lost it), but for some reason that still pisses me off to this day.

I really have had problems with is Nick Collins. He may have got all those interceptions with great returns, but what I saw more often than I cared to was a safety "lost in space" ... Several of those "great" interceptions were due to him being out of position in the first place, imo. "Due to" might be overly harsh, but that is really the best way I can describe it, and I will leave all the missed tackles out of the equation (or not, lol).

I'm guessing the same could be said for Smith, which is why he was cut. (Obviously, this leaves out the possibility of personality conflicts, etc.)

I disagree.... if your blitzing a lot of guys.... say only 4 or 5 guys covering you have play man to man.... (because there isn't enough to play much zone)

As far as picking apart a defense in man to man coverage that doesn't have a lot to do with blitzing or not... it has to do with how good of coverage and how good are the throws are........

Just look at the Colts and Saints games from last year.... both man to man... Packers killed Manning.... and Brees killed the Packers in those games.... the difference is the Packers were able to get pressure on Manning and not enough on Brees.

Heck sometimes when the Steelers blitz a lot of guys they leave their DBs one on one....

The thing is how good are those CBs? The Steelers CBs are the weak part of their defense (not that they're that bad... more like the rest are that good). With Woodson, Harris and Williams the Packers should be able to play man to man if they want.

I agree with Harris that zone is easier than man (well at least for (making up a number) 98% of guys). I think Harris is in that 2% (again made up number) where they're better in man to man than they are zone. So I wouldn't mind if they kept him in man to man...

But if one person messes up the offense can get a big play in man to man... but if you have the talent to do it (which the Packers do) it frees a guy or two that could cover a zone, watch the QB or could blitz.

Man or Zone really doesn't matter, no pressure and the QB is going to kill a defense. I would like to see Dom utilize the press coverage more than I have seen in preseason. Woody, Harris and Williams are very good with jamming the WR from the line. That doesn't mean that they have to run man coverage. They can Jam and drop into a zone.

No matter what, the pressure is on the Dline.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

As i think about it. How many penalties came from dbs last season? Because i would think playing zone would help eliminate some of them.

beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress

dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round
