They would be on two a days and you know that Dave Cowher don't put up with poor play.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think the real question is, after we try out both Cowher and Gruden and neither produce the perfect results that we want, who do we turn to then?

You turn to a young guy. Most likely within the organization. But that doesn't matter at this point.

And Ninja, I'm not calling for his head because of a 2-2 start. He's a good coach and I think that our coaching staff is in the upper echolon of the league.

Point is, though, that you're always trying to upgrade your team. Age is no aspect when it comes to hiring coaches, so you should just go out and hire the best coach who also best fits your system.

I think that Cowher fits that perfectly. And so does Gruden. They're both great coaches who I would rank over McCarthy at this point.

Do I really have to show the average record of teams who hire original Super Bowl Winning Coaches after they were fired? It's not good.

Sure. Go Ahead.

Take in consideration that you only fire your HC when you're team is doing bad, hence that the new coaches usually won't do a whole lot in their first (few) season(s).

Next to that, these coaches try to mold their team into their old teams. That doesn't work. We, however, are already on our way to building a team that mirrors the Steelers one. At least on defense. We already have the D-cordinator he had for his first few years.

Gruden is just a student of the game. I think that you can plug him in nearly anywhere and he'll work in easily. There's a reason why the Raiders gave up 2 firsts and 2 seconds up for him.

Just look at that Tampa team. He's always been an offensive minder coach, but made it work with his defense. He understands how to build his scheme around a team. Not the other way around. And his work ethic is nothing short of amazing.

Much like Billick, really.

Cowher power resigned i thought, he wasn't fired so i don't think your stats would make much sense.

What only four games and a .500 record can do to a fanbase...

After a 13-3 season and a trip to the NFCCG we are 8-12 0ver the last 20 games.
That and a constant litany of fix this, clean up that and still looking like shit is what makes a fan base antsy.

Cowher and Gruden are veteran coaches. We all know Ted Thompson will never bring in a veteran so if Mike McCarthy is canned this year (which he probably won't), expect another unknown entity with little experience to become the next Ted Thompson diamond-in-the-rough head coach. Probably would be the youngest head coach in the league too.

Your looking at the microcosm of this year, we have more to base these types of personal decisions off than these four games.

I would be open to saying that it would be unfair to pass judgment upon the defense at this point after only four games.

But this offensive line has been a disappointment since 2006, even in 07' they were up and down weekly.

I think it is completely fair to openly ponder the hotness of the seat of McCarthy, especially when he becomes arrogant, defensive and pretty remedial on how they are going to get things fixed. A season going on two of repeating the fundamental BS isn't cutting it with the hardcore fans.. it is a cop out and I see no possible way it is acceptable. None.

Do I want him fired, no, but unless he can get things fixed on the one of the most troubling spots for consecutive years on the offensive line.. I think it is fair game to oust one or both of them.

That doesn't mean they are terrible, but just as it was a season ago, we have to do what is best for the long term health of the franchise. No?

What is the difference between a player that is indecisive verse a GM or Coach that is too stubborn to adjust their plan for the good of the team? Both cases are damaging for the franchise no?

There was no player holding up their offseason plan this year, yet they remained static on how they approached building the roster. A year ago they made a last second move with a player that was performing at a solid standard, only to cut them and go in another direction with sub par results.

Frost and Smith. We know what we don't have in Bush, so if they wanted to supplement the roster with Martin, I think the logical approach would have been to keep Smith, cut Bush and add Martin.. thus covering your bases with base on your core defensive unit. Especially with Bigby and Rouse going in with nicks already. They errored in a that move due to reported personal differences.. really when the sport is touted as a business.

They can try to deflect as much attention away from the train wreck at the tackle positions, but that is about as silly as Dhazer pinning all blame on Rodgers weekly.

If you can't routinely block four rushers with 5 blockers, I see no way you can aim blame anywhere but at that unit. Backs and TE's are suppose to chip and pickup stunts and blitzes by nature, not being relied upon in your base protection schemes. If they are being banked upon in the base protection package, then there is freaking problems in that package, Period.

Overall, this staff should be under fire to fix these problems.. that is their freaking jobs.. and if they can't we should be asking the questions of who is on deck.

You want to know what is scary?

Pack93z and myself, when we get worked up about something...

Almost scarily ahead of the curve, fanbase-wise.

Step 1: One of us starts bitching about/ discussing something.

Step 2: Naysayers and "tut-tut" folk weigh in semi-condescendingly.

Step 3: What we were bitching about / discussing comes to pass.

Step 4: Naysayers open up a thread talking about precisely what we were talking about, long after our thread has died, with some "I told you so" crap thrown in for good measure.

It's a trend. :thumbleft:
