Source: Green signs 1-year deal
Running back Ahman Green has signed a one-year contract with the Packers, an NFL source said.

Green, 32, played seven of his 11 NFL seasons with the Packers from 2000 to 2006 before signing a free-agent contract with the Houston Texans. He now rejoins a Packers team with Ryan Grant entrenched as the starter.

Green's base salary will be the veteran minimum, the source said. It seems likely there also are sweeteners Green can earn through playing time and/or production.

According to another source, the Packers cleared room for Green on the roster by placing running back DeShawn Wynn on injured reserve.

Wynn, who had been playing on third downs, has been bothered by a knee injury since camp and was expected to miss four weeks, according to sources.

For his career, Green has rushed 2,015 times for 9,045 yards (4.5 average) and 59 touchdowns. He also has 375 carries for 2,865 yards and 14 scores.

UPDATE, 10:21 a.m.: The Packers have confirmed both moves.

I just want to say, I called his number before it was announced. 😉

Packers Sign RB Green, Place RB Wynn On Injured Reserve

The Green Bay Packers have signed RB Ahman Green and placed RB DeShawn Wynn on injured reserve. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the transactions Wednesday.

Green played seven seasons (2000-06) in Green Bay, which included four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances (2001-04). He began his NFL career in Seattle (1998-99) and also played two seasons in Houston (2007-08). With 8,162 career rushing yards with the Packers, Green needs 46 more yards to surpass No. 1 Jim Taylor (8,207) and become the franchise's all-time leading rusher.

A 6-foot, 217-pound player, he will wear No. 34.

Wynn, a third-year pro, had seen action in four games in 2009

I don't really see him helping all that much. Seems like just more of a nostalgic move.

Because the Packers are in such a nostalgic point in the season with their depth, right?

Give me a break.

I think we all should understand Green was not brought in to be the savior of our running game, that time has long passed for Green.

I believe he was brought in for 3rd downs (Green is a great receiving RB) and probably to return kicks.

Used sparingly, I think Green will be a positive asset, more than Wynn was.

Ahman Green, 2nd leading rusher in GB history, hmmmm, maybe just maybe he can help RG out, being the experienced vet he is.

I like the signing, nobody expects AG to be the runner he was in his prime, but if I remember he was a pretty good receiver out of the backfield, and he will add some much needed VETERAN KNOWLEDGE to the team.

Learning how to win is sometimes the hardest and biggest hurdle for a young team to get over, IMHO this is a good sighning.

There was better options out there than a banged up 32 year old RB with a fumbling reputation.

I feel like one of the bad guys for disliking this signing but whatever. He is a 3rd down back, which makes this okay...I guess.

The signing means nothing to me...he won't help considering most of our 3rd downs are long yardage situation due to stupid penalties.

Agreed. O-Line needs to be addressed before you can even think about bringing in another RB. I don't think even Adrian Peterson could run behind this line.

I feel that its just going to be another name getting stopped for no gain, Unless Green can get sideways (sorry for my lack of packer knowledge!!) then those same no holes will be there. As for the trade for Jackson it would be nice to get a bigger name in the RB position.

Nothing against grant but i feel that something has to give. You cant get 5 new Oline players easily but you can get a new RB. So i just feel its just the way things are. Chop and change and see what happens. Im happy Ted Thompson is doing something

Zero2Cool (48m) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.

Mucky Tundra (10h) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (10h) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing

beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent

beast (30-Jul) : How long will it be down?
beast (30-Jul) : RIP site 😭
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site will die, I have to restart it.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Quinn stinks. Lot of underthrows. (my guess)
beast (30-Jul) : How did Quinn Ewers effect where Golden was drafted?
dfosterf (30-Jul) : All I've experienced was late at night or early morning. I just figured you were doing something in the background
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site sure seems to be down more than up
dfosterf (29-Jul) : 50 cent hookers? I'm moving to Green Bay. I thought it was just real estate that was more affordable there. 😂
Zero2Cool (29-Jul) : Sure seems site going down more than 50¢ hooker
