Funny you should mention Matt Millen and then the 2nd statement, because that's exactly Millen's situation - someone who's not a proper GM, doesn't have a management background thinking he can outdraft and out manage the rest of the GMs in the NFL.

Maybe you'll get lucky here and there, but you'll never convince me, or [strike]any[/strike] the majority of team owners from hiring someone who has no experience or background to GM a team, because they see clearly in hindsight.

You are free to criticise, but don't pretend that people on the street could do a better job. You are doing a disservice for all the behind-the-scenes hard work thatTed Thompsonand MM go through and all the long hours, probably every day to try and keep the Packers as an elite team without paying through the nose.

Whoa. Did you bother to read the rest of what I said?

I was praising Ted Thompson . Then I said that Ted Thompson has done a fine job, but like EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD, he has made mistakes. That's where I have the problem where there are people on this board who think Ted Thompson is infallible and anyone who criticizes anything he does is an idiot.

no need to get snippy. I didn't read the thread. I saw your question. I answered your question, or at least I thought I did. Personally, I feel like the answer is right there, and you just don't like it. The playcalling has been conservative, for whatever reason. Example: we haven't run the Big 5. not because Aaron can't handle it, but because we haven't had 5 healthy receivers. So, we haven't been able to open up the playbook.

Not snippy but frustrated..

We have a poster claiming that Mm is cutting playbook in half because AR couldnt handle it..

We have MM admitting to reporters in a p/c that nothing changed with the playbook last year to this year...

It isnt cuz I"dont want to hear it"

I want an answer to it is all..

Is it cut in half cuz AR can't handle it and MM LIED to the press?? or is it cut in half during a game because those are the only plays they want to run that particular week?

Does that make sense?

I want the same answer you want

But I have some other options:

a) We cut the playbook just for that game
b) We cut it because AR can't handle it
c) We cut it because other players can't handle it
d) We cut it because MM wants to play safe with the rookie QB
e) We cut it because of divine request (TT)
f) Richard Nixon

I know you're not going to be satisfied with what I say because you want McCarthy to answer your question flat-out, but I think at least a part of the limited playbook has to do with what I brought up: the team as a whole has the personnel to run the playbook the same as last year. but not all the personnel capable of running that playbook have been available, ie. can't run Big 5 if you don't have all 5 of your receivers available. Maybe missing Wells has been cause to not utilize the whole playbook. maybe missing Hall has been part of the reason.

what i am NOT okay with is MM saying the play book is the same as what Brett had..and now saying it isnt being used fully..WTF does it mean really??? your explanation is okay with me and I can see that

and now a poster claiming that AR isnt smart enough to get the whole playbook...That is the issue i have because that would be an out right lie from MM

does that make sense?

yeah. but a coach who lies also makes a whole lot more sense than a coach who is up front and candid about his team.

Playbook hasn't been cut down or anything.

We've picked off right where we left. The only difference is under Favre the Packers had near flawless execution at times. Under Rodgers, the execution has been average at best. Not all of that is on the QB, but some of it is.

GB still hasn't been able to use the big five yet, but they've had their big four out there and a tight end.

They've run the slants, come-backs, crossing routes, posts, skinny posts, hitches. They've gone deep and they've even added a few roll-outs that utilizes Rodgers ability to get outside the pocket quicker.

They've tried to run screens. I say tried because for whatever reason, under McCarthy, the screen game hasn't been very well executed. That goes back to 2006.

The offense is about the same. It's just the execution. That's been the problem. Not that things have been "dumbed" down for Rodgers.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress

dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round
