did wearing the tie affect the guys job performance? no.

again - see how simple that is? you guys drive me absofreakinlutely nuts.

I don't see why this issue is so difficult for you, wearing the tie didn't effect the employee in any way; but it was offensive to the majority of the customers.

Would it be okay for me to wear a t-shirt of an almost nude woman while wroking at OBGYN clinic? Hey, it's a free country right?

nothing on his tie was offensive - your nude tshirt would be offensive.

keep your panties in a bunch if you want but i think firing someone for wearing an inoffensive tie simply because you're pissed off about a football game is ridiculous.

edit: then again, maybe it's cuz i love yankin yer chains!! 😉

To me, I think the employee overstepped his bound on this one. He should have worn the tie on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday...but wearing it on Monday its like he is throwing a fresh pile of steaming crap in their customers' faces.

He was given a chance to take it off...multiple chances and he didn't. I think the employer is well within his rights here.

We have become so precious that we defend a guy who openly defies the instruction of his employer regarding his work uniform. Again, the dude was given a choice....and he made the wrong one....

Agreed, Porforis. The employer has the right to determine the uniform of the job. The man was given a choice, and he decided his tie was worth more than his job. No sympathy for the narcissic douchebag.

Same as I should have the choice that the face of my company should not be full of piercings and tattoos. Get past your Packer pride, everyone. It is his business to run as best possible...and he gave the guy a choice...and he made it.

If an employer has a dress code it has to be a written code. It has to be spelled plainly in the employee hand book. It has to be presented to and agreed upon before hiring the employee.
Employers that change their dress code after hiring employees have to allow for leeway in a transition period.

Otherwise the employer can tell the employees that only black is acceptable color to wear. Two weeks later they can come back and say only blue. Two weeks later purple. They can't use the argument, "Hey it is our company dress code." It won't be acceptable by the courts.

You can't wear the packers tie because we have a promo with the bears. So if you drive a ford do you have to take the bus to work since its a chevy dealership ?

Things are pretty simple when you try to fool yourself into thinking that you understand how someone else's business works. I fail to see how wearing a Packers tie in Bears country CAN'T affect a SALESMAN'S job performance.

I dunno. Maybe not every single person who goes into the dealership is not a bears fan?
the Chicago radio yesterday said he was a good salesman. Perhaps he is selling to other people. Perhaps he has a great shtick that overcomes people's objection to him being a Packer fan.
