I agree...however this is the NFL, which is a televised and professional sport. Punching somebody is not professional no matter what.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Am I the only one that thinks it's a little ridiculous how much this is being talked about when there are about 1,000 body shots exchanged per game? Taking a big swing at a guys head is one thing, but a punch to the body when both players are fighting each other? I just don't get it. It was stupid on his part, but not that big of a deal in my opinion.

I'm suspecting closer to $50k than $25k.

Edit, those who said $25k are most surely spot on since that's what Andre Johnson, Cortland Finnegan and Richard Seymour received for doing the same thing.

Not really worried about the Bears offense, so losing Tramon isn't that big of a deal for that game either. Bush can cover Cutler and any of the Bears WRs easily.

Now their D and Special Teams... that's what I'm afraid of.

Woodson should have been tossed.. however he concealed his punch more so and escaped an ejection.

Personally.. if a blocker has my shoulder pads driven into my neck.. I very well might swing as well. He had a handful of jersey and pad near the edge of the body.. and was sticking it upwards.. doesn't feel good on the neck.. especially with the lightweight pads the corners wear.

That said.. he should have gotten wrung up for it.. fine no suspension coming. It wasn't the vicious of a punch to warrant a suspension rip. Pocketbook.. yep.

It was a dumb thing to do and Woodson let a young kid get the best of him. Who knows what else was going on. Graham seems to be a little cocky with the mocking of the belt after his one touchdown catch and he was also constantly saying something after his catches.

Maybe he was saying something to Woodson while driving his pads up into his neck? Either way, nothing should warrant that kind of reaction from an NFL veteran.

Shame, shame Woodson. 😳

Also, via espn_nfcnblog on Twitter:

Re Woodson: NFL rules say a punch "may" result in ejection if deemed flagrant and "as long as the entire action is observed" by official.

Panthers finished 13th in rushing yards last season without any real threat from the passing attack with a combination of rookie QB's and overall poor skill players surrounding the passing game.

Consider this for example.. the Panthers threw for an anemic 2635 yard (per PFreference ) and 508 yards of that was to the running backs. No single receiver went for more than 555 yards on the season.. Steve went for 554.

Steve Smith had 563 total yard on offense of the 4481 yards total.. that is 12% of the total output. Their backs produced 2254 total yards.. or 50.3% of the offense.

I don't expect with Cam starting for the Panthers to be a dynamic passing team.. so I don't expect Smith to be the key to stopping the Panthers again this season. Their team passer rating was in the 50's.. not a single QB (with more than 10 attempts) got over a 60.

There is a reason they had the number one pick (combined with a struggling defense - 26th in scoring).. they had weak passing game to compliment the running game.. I suspect it will be better this season, but hardly a threat so to speak yet.

Woodson was called for unnecessary roughness, and he knew he was in the wrong.

“I lost my cool,” he said. “The guy was blocking me and holding me and I’m trying to get off him. I just lost my cool. That’s all on me.”

He expects to hear from the league office, probably in the form of a fine.

“I’m sure I will,” Woodson said. “There’s no getting around it. You all saw it. I’m sure all the people in the NFL who watch the tape, they’ll see it. There’s nothing I can do about it now. I can’t take it back.”
