While it's an interesting thought of possibly reuniting with Sharper for a season with Collins going down, I think at the end of the day, it's not Ted Thompson 's MO.

I don't think Sharper has every played Safety in a 3-4 defense so he'd have to completely learn a new system. Not saying he isn't capable, but there would be a definite learning curve with him. Then you have injury concerns and his play has declined due to age. I think there's a reason no NFL team brought him into training camp.

While crazier things have happened, I think the Packers would more likely bring an Anthony Levine or Brandon Underwood back (players we've had and who are familiar with our defensive system) then bringing in a declining veteran with injury concerns and attitude problems.

Former Saints star S Darren Sharper will be among a number of players working out for Broncos on Tues. Looking at DL and RBs as well

Do we really need another defensive player with fundamentally piss-poor tackling skills who prefers going for glamorous interceptions instead of actually making contact?

Not even worth the worry.

Ted Thompson is like the Crew Chief for Tony Stewart. He has it all planned out. It is all laid out in pit row and ready to be replaced.

When something breaks...

You pull the car (Packers) into pit row during a Yellow Flag (Mid week) M.M. jacks up the car, pulls out Collins, installs the new part in 12.2 seconds and the Car (Packers) burns rubber and gets back to speed.

Watch.. The new part will make the Pro Bowl with this opportunity.

They do need another safety, but Charlie Peprah filled in admirably a year ago. He deserves the first crack at the job.

So? This one would actually make sense.

Why don't we go with the best available players? Do we NEED a one-season replacement for Collins, or will we overcome like when Grant or one of many other starters went down last year? We have depth, we might have some growing pains but if we lose a pro bowl safety it doesn't mean we need to replace him with the next best thing (which sharper is not).

For the record, he was one of the best Safeties in 2009. In 2010, he was injured and cut by the Saints.

Might be worth a look, but I say the chance of him making the team is around 5%.

I printed up that picture of Sharper chasing Driver and Sharper looking like he was about to crap in his pants. Wonder where I put it. I think it got lost in our latest move.

I don't hate the guy though like a lot of people here do. I just don't think he's got anything left.

If there is an ex-Packer hanging around somewhere, you can be sure there will be a post on this site speculating about bringing him back.

Here’s a good example of nfl.com link bait:

Don't Rule out Sharper as Collins' Replacement in Green Bay

I have to wonder if the Green Bay Packers might be tempted to reach out to free agent Darren Sharper after Monday's announcement that star safety Nick Collins is out for the season.

Sharper, who spent the first eight years of his career in Green Bay, has deep ties there and loves the area. Though it hurt him to leave a few years back, Sharper now could be had much more cheaply.

Sharper is scheduled to work out for the Denver Broncos on Tuesday and badly wants to keep playing. He already has turned down two offers in hopes of landing with a winning team, with whom he could contribute and play.

Sharper obviously knows the players and coaches in Green Bay. Who knows? Maybe he fills a need.

Does Sharper know the coaches in Green Bay all that well, or the players? It seems to me that the roster has changed quite a bit from the last time he was on the squad.
