Not going out my way anymore and I’m not playing through injuries anymore cause when shit goes wrong they always use it against you. I’m treating everyone accordingly and giving them the same energy they giving me. Focus on yourself and your mental 59 you owe it to yourself 🤝🏿

wow!

One can take this a lot of different directions. I think this is a rip on guys not playing when they’re hurt i.e. Alexander.

I also think it’s a rip on coaching.

regardless, the natives are restless

Id be upset too if my DC kept having me cover their top WR as a LB

This is the way zone defenses have worked for time immemorial. Not just for the Packers but for every other team in high school, college, or the NFL.

As a consequence, it will look as if a linebacker is in man-to-man coverage against a wide receiver, which is almost never the case.

Inept, as I think, we are defensively, I will bet a shiny new dime that Campbell is never in man to man coverage against a wide receiver.

And whether he is playing, hurt, or not, on the Tampa touchdown, he had a wonderful interception opportunity, which he miffed on.

I can’t help but thinking there’s a lot of scapegoating going on here. Just because he is not a good defensive coordinator does not mean that the players have played well, or have legitimate excuses as to why they have not.

The offense is hoping to get guys rushing to get a DB on the WR and catch defense with pants down. So, defenses will try to press the WR with LB and hope they get backend help.

We see this happen every week and nearly every game.

There's plenty to bash Joe Barry about. This is not one of them.

UserPostedImage GREEN BAY, Wis. – De’Vondre Campbell was an All-Pro in his debut season with the Green Bay Packers in 2021. He was a team captain in 2022.

In 2023?

Apparently, he’s had enough.

“Not going out of my way anymore and I’m not playing through injuries anymore cause when sh** goes wrong they always use it against you,” he said.

That’s part of what he posted on X on Tuesday morning.

Campbell’s post came a couple days after the Packers’ defense was embarrassed in a 34-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That defeat, one in which cornerback Jaire Alexander missed a sixth consecutive game with a mysterious shoulder injury, created questions about the job security of defensive coordinator Joe Barry and made the Packers the butt of a national joke.

Campbell has had a difficult season. He’s missed four games and parts of two others due to injuries. In 10 starts, he’s fourth on the team with 67 tackles.

During his All-Pro season, he recorded 146 tackles along with two interceptions, two forced fumbles and five passes defensed. This year, he has zero interceptions, zero forced fumbles and one pass defensed.

“It’s been up and down, man, trying to stay healthy,” Campbell said last week. “When I’m healthy, I’m a problem, but like I say, that’s the hard part – staying healthy. Just got to keep pushing.”

Speaking a few days before the Tampa Bay game, Campbell praised the coaching staff for its approach on a short week.

“It’s vital for our bodies, just physically getting back to where we want to be since we’re on a short week,” he said. “Very thankful for it and appreciate the coaching staff.”

Barry recently praised Campbell for his toughness.

“We’re in Detroit on Wednesday night before the Thursday game,” Barry said, “and De’Vondre Campbell can barely lift his arm and he’s got a masseuse meeting him down in the lobby an hour before bed check to do some extra work on his neck just so he can potentially have the ability to play at 12:30 the next day.”

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
