This being the first game this year that I watched I expected much worse from Brohm (from all the doom and gloom I've read about him). He did as well as I expected for a third string quarterback. As far as his overthrowing receivers, I have heard in the past that that is caused by poor footwork (not setting the feet properly before throwing). Is this true? If so, did anybody who knows more about it than I do notice footwork as being an issue?

He looks like a rookie QB, not a second year QB. If that is "real progress" as we have been told, then we need someone else doing the evaluating, or this guy plays well in practice but cannot play (yet) at an NFL level, or we are getting bullshat. If I were writing "book" on him as an opponent's scout and had little time to dedicate, I'd go, "Rattles easy".

I am not saying that he will never be an NFL QB, but many things are pointing in that direction. To me, it is the most "Oh, well, we missed on that one"
position, as far as assigning "blame" --- QB's are like a box of chocolates, etc. etc. etc.

The flip side is this...again, going to my Forrest Gump reference...Flynn, our 7th rounder, looks as good or better than many hoped our (so far) 2nd round bust QB.

Trade Brohm for a six pack of Leinies, release him, whatever. I don't think we have the luxury of waiting around to see if the light goes on, in the sense that we took a great risk last year, got lucky, and right now we look like the kind of team that we were kinda sure we had--but now look like we just might in fact be. Get somebody in here that looks like they can play like an NFL QB, someone that doesn't make you think "Oh, shit, there goes our season."

We would argue and flip the hell out here, but if (God forbid) Rodgers got hurt right now...I would have a pretty good feeling about Flynn moving my football team down the field for us.

Brohm? Shit, I might not even watch that debacle.

Upon further analysis, I'l take a six pack of Old Milwaukee for Brohm.

If they remain patient and do nothing, which is probably the most likely scenario, it isn't like I'm gonna scream about it or anything. I would just point out that if Rodgers does get hurt, I'd bet dollars to donuts that we will immediately sign some assclown washed- up QB off the street due to the mere thought of letting Brohm try and run this football team.

These are my thoughts as of today, and since the sample size is so small, they are subject to change as early as Friday. That's not my fault, it's his.

Great post, Foster. +1.

Maybe we should try and throw Brohm at the Redskins, getting Brennan in return. Pretty much like you mentioned yesterday.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I know. What's the worst that we'll do? Hurt his arm? Make his throwing arm less effective?...

I wonder if the Packers will actively try and trade Brohm (and if that was the reason for him coming in before Flynn last night). I can't see them getting much at all for Brohm at this stage maybe a 5th/6th rounder might be generous, there's no way the Packers will get back a 2nd.

Maybe we can Bundle Brohm and Bustin Harrel as a package deal. I'm sure we could get a pack of gum and a used band aid for the pair of them.

I went to the second and third day of Training Camp, and Brohm looked like shit. He had that stupid glove on his throwing hand, and his passes ran the gamut from decent to horrible. He was nowhere near the level of Matt Flynn.

That said, there is no reason to give up on a 23 year old QB prospect who has shown what he did in college, and has the raw tools if he can ever put it together. Brohm has been a good QB for a long time before joining the Packers, even making the cover of Sports Illustrated as a high schooler. He may just need to be around Tom Clements and Mike McCarthy for a little while longer for his "light to come on," or "the game to slow down for him," or any number of other cliches. Quarterback prospects don't all become NFL starting caliber players in a year and a half.

There is very little to be gained by being impatient with his development and cut him at this stage of the game. The Packers have to wait this one out for AT LEAST one more year before giving up on their investment, IMO.

I'd give him another year or so. A-rodg didn't look good early in his career but look at him now.

If it takes a while for the 3rd string QB to develop no big deal.

It will be a great season if Brohm is the biggest worry for GB fans.

"stevegb" wrote:

As long as Rodgers is healthy Brohm is NO worry. It will NOT be a great season if Brohm is our biggest worry, we'll be in big trouble...

That said, I thought Brohm looked a little antsy yesterday. He's got happy feet, but the most concerning part of his games have been his lack of accuracy. That was his strongest point, but he is struggling with it now.

I wonder if the mechanics adjustments that he's being asked to make are affecting his accuracy. He may not be comfortable with the techniques they're teaching.

I'd like to see us give him at least as long as we've given Harrell to show a glimmer of something... :eyeslam:

beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔

dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round
